Shane Mosley will return to the ring tonight at the age of 53 against Australian boxer Matt Floyd.
Shane Mosley (49-10-1) will don the gloves once more tonight after nine years out of the ring following his loss to David Avanesyan in 2016.
Mosley will face 15-2 fighter Matt Floyd, who lost a four-rounder in June to 5-1 Jack Gregory. His only other loss came to a 98-5 opponent in Thailand in 2024. Floyd aims to disrupt Mosley’s hopes of a Pacquiao rematch.
Mosley is 53, though, and Floyd will be the favorite going into the fight. Whilst the aged legend hopes to prove he has what it takes, his career could well see another dark period like it did in 2002.

Shane Mosley’s only win in six fights came against Oscar De La Hoya
In 2002, 38-0 Mosley faced 33-0 Vernon Forrest, who snatched Mosley’s WBC world title with a unanimous decision win.
Mosley hoped to turn the tide and change things in their immediate rematch, but was again beaten by Forrest, again by unanimous decision.
An accidental cut marred Mosley’s next fight with Raul Marquez, causing it to end in a no contest.
Now, almost 19 months since his last win, Mosley was desperate to revive his career.
In 2003, Mosley got his shot at Oscar De La Hoya and his IBA and WBC world titles.
After three fights in a row that didn’t go his way, Mosley was determined to get a victory this time round, and edged a unanimous decision win after 12 hard-fought rounds.
His success didn’t last long, though, as he was beaten by unanimous decision by Ronald Wright in his next fight, losing his titles. Mosley’s win over De La Hoya remains one of the best of his career.
Another loss to Ronald Wright followed, this time by majority decision.
Mosley won his next fight in April 2005, meaning he had just one victory in 1,372 days.
