Shakur Stevenson followed up dominant world title victory with one-sided beatdown over Canelo’s undefeated stablemate

Shakur Stevenson will face William Zepeda on The Ring’s third card in New York City.

Following his win over electrician-turned-boxer Josh Padley, Shakur Stevenson will find himself standing opposite Mexican knockout artist William Zepeda in a double-header bill that will also see Hamzah Sheeraz take on Edgar Berlanga.

Stevenson is a three-weight world champion, but is under pressure to put on not just an impressive fight, but an entertaining one.

Sheeraz is also under pressure, as a fight with Canelo has been promised if he is able to beat Berlanga.

It was one of Canelo’s stablemates that faced Stevenson back in 2022 in a super-featherweight unification fight.

Shakur Stevenson schooled Oscar Valdez in one-sided unification

In 2022, off the back of Stevenson’s TKO win over Jamel Herring, the Newark fighter faced Oscar Valdez for the WBC title.

WBO champion Stevenson, who criticized Sugar Ray Robinson recently, was 17-0 at the time, whilst Valdez was 30-0, having nearly double the number of fights as the rising talent.

Despite having more fights and 23 knockouts to Shakur’s nine, Valdez was not prepared for what was to come.

Stevenson, who faced his girlfriend’s brother once, outclassed Valdez, who trained under Canelo’s coach Eddy Reynoso, from the opening bell to the final one, and won a landslide victory over the champion.

Just two fights later, Valdez challenged Emmanuel Navarrete for the WBO title, and lost by unanimous decision.

Two fights after that, Navarrete stopped Valdez in their world title rematch.
