Floyd Mayweather earned more in retirement from exhibition fights than most boxers’ whole careers

Floyd Mayweather retired from professional boxing in 2017, but that didn’t mean he’d stop earning money from his exploits in the ring.

“Money” went 50-0 in his final fight, knocking out UFC star Conor McGregor to earn a whopping $300 million payday before heading off into retirement.

Mayweather beat Rocky Marciano’s record with that win at the age of forty, although he would be back in the ring the following year despite his retirement.

The allure of hundreds of millions of dollars was too much for him to turn down, as Mayweather turned to exhibition bouts as a lucrative source of income.

Floyd Mayweather has earned over $150 million from exhibition fights since retiring

Even after hanging up his gloves in a professional sense, Mayweather’s transition into exhibition fights has become incredibly lucrative for the undefeated former champion.

Just over a year after his fight with McGregor, he flew to Japan to compete against kickboxing sensation Tenshin Nasukawa in a controversial battle, which ended in a first-round stoppage win for the American.

Mayweather earned a reported $9 million for that bout, although his next one, three years later, was a much bigger earner.

Mayweather took on YouTuber-turned-boxer-turned-wrestler Logan Paul in a boxing match in Florida in 2021, going eight rounds without a winner in this exhibition fight.

He earned a reported fee of $50 million for this fight, more than what most boxers make for even their biggest professional bouts, including big-money title fights.

Since retiring, Mayweather has had eight exhibition bouts, most recently a rematch with John Gotti III, which earned him an extra $15 million to add to the $10 million from the first bout.

Reports suggest that Mayweather has earned around $169 million from exhibition bouts alone, a huge fortune that most boxers struggle to match in their professional careers.

Floyd Mayweather has earned more in exhibitions than many top professional fighters

If the reported $169 million figure is accurate, then Mayweather is still one of the highest-paid fighters in the world.

He has surpassed the career earnings of multiple top fighters since retirement, showing just how much of a draw he still is, decades after entering the sport.

Mayweather’s reported earnings are higher than Tyson Fury’s ($146 million), Terence Crawford’s ($70 million), and Amir Khan’s ( $75 million) as he continues to dominate the boxing box office in retirement.

With a rematch against Manny Pacquiao being touted in recent weeks, there is no telling how much Mayweather can make with exhibition bouts in the future.
