Deontay Wilder’s brother hung up the gloves after 6-13 journeyman derailed his career

Deontay Wilder is looking to revive his career in his next fight, though his brother’s career seems well and truly dead.

Deontay Wilder has now had 48 fights, and is set for his 49th this weekend against Tyrrell Herndon, a 24-5 fighter who believes he can cause the ultimate upset.

Wilder’s career is hanging by a thread after ‘The Bronze Bomber’, who once threatened the British ‘Bomber’, has lost four of his last five fights, defeating only Robert Helenius.

His brother’s career, though, is far worse.

Marsellos Wilder retired with a record of 5-3 after losing to three journeymen

Marsellos Wilder made his pro debut in 2018, just months before Deontay’s first fight with Tyson Fury.

He won his first three fights, two via first-round knockout and one via a shutout unanimous decision, but hit a hurdle in his fourth contest.

In 2019, Marsellos faced 6-12 William Deets, and won every round going into the fourth and final round. It was there that Deets knocked Marsellos out, marking his first humiliating loss, but not his last.

Wilder had three more wins that year, though one was overturned into a no-contest, before facing Dustin Long.

Long had a record of just 2-1-2 at the time, but was able to repeat history, as he stopped Marsellos, who was up on every scorecard after winning the first three rounds.

With two embarrassing losses on his record, Wilder took some time off the sport, returning three years later in 2022.

He faced 6-13 Eric Abraham, who had a nine-fight losing streak going into the match. Abraham didn’t stop Wilder, but perhaps more embarrassingly, beat him on points, winning a split decision over the ‘Bomber’s brother.

Marsellos Wilder’s final opponent defeated one of Jake Paul’s pro rivals

In 2023 and 2024, in a bid to be taken more seriously as a boxer, Jake Paul faced two low-level pro boxers, deviating from his usual strategy of cherry-picking fighters from adjacent combat sports.

The first of the two was 10-1-1 Andre August, whose record seemed an impressive one for the 7-1 Paul to fight.

August’s only loss came at the hands of Eric Abraham, was 3-3 when he knocked out the 5-0-1 August in the second round in 2018.

Paul, who could fight his brother one day, dismantled August in just one round.
