Deontay Wilder’s biggest weapon was neutralized in gruelling world title test two years before Tyson Fury draw

Deontay Wilder will face Tyrrell Herndon later this month in a must-win comeback fight.

Deontay Wilder has had just one win in his past five fights, a one-round blowout of Robert Helenius.

The once-feared ‘Bronze Bomber’ has hinted at a return against Anthony Joshua, but must first win against 24-5 Herndon, who was advised by Buster Douglas on how to cause an upset.

Just four fights before Wilder’s first blemish, the Tuscaloosa heavyweight was tested when his favorite weapon was removed from his arsenal.

Deontay Wilder could not use his right hand against Chris Arreola

In 2016, Wilder sought to defend his world title against 36-4-1 Chris Arreola.

Arreola had won just three of his last six fights, with one of those wins later being changed into a no-contest. Two of the losses came at the hands of Bermane Stiverne, who broke Wilder’s 32-fight KO streak.

Wilder dropped Arreola in the fourth round of the fight, but failed to use his right hand much after dropping his foe.

He later said he had broken his right hand and torn a muscle, likely in that fourth round. Despite the injury, Wilder battered and bloodied Arreola, who failed to come out for the ninth round, awarding Wilder another win.

Deontay Wilder has gone the distance with just three men

Out of his 48 fights, Wilder has won 43 and has stopped 42 of the men he has beaten. Only three men have gone the distance with Wilder:

2015 – Bermane Stiverne (24-1-1) – Wilder won by UD

2018 – Tyson Fury (27-0) – Wilder and Fury drew

2024 – Joseph Parker (33-3) – Wilder lost by UD
