Vasiliy Lomachenko faces a tough choice as hungry Olympian hunts down his title

Vasiliy Lomachenko has not fought since his win over George Kambosos Jr. in May, 2024.

Vasiliy Lomachenko‘s pro career has not turned out quite as well as his amateur career did. Lomachenko racked up a record of 396-1 as an amateur.

Lomachenko was one of the best amateurs in the world, but has suffered three defeats as a professional, with the latest coming at the hands of Devin Haney.

Lomachenko is reportedly considering retirement, and has been given a deadline of the 8th of October by the IBF to defend his title, and there is one hungry prospect coming for the belt.

5-0 Olympian is coming for Vasiliy Lomachenko’s title

Andy Cruz is just 5-0, and yet is set to face 17-1-1 Hironori Mishiro in an IBF eliminator. A win over Mishiro will put the amateur star one step closer to challenging for Lomachenko’s belt.

Whilst Lomachenko, who lost to Orlando Salido, holds the title, Raymond Muratalla has won the interim title in his recent fight against Zaur Abdullaev.

If Cruz beats Mishiro all eyes will be on a bout between the Cuban and ‘The Matrix’, an impressive feat considering Cruz would be just 6-0 facing a champion.

Mishiro’s sole loss has come due to an unfortunate technical decision, and he’s won his last two fights by stoppage.

Andy Cruz has a bitter rivalry with one world champion who he beat four times

Cruz turned pro after a stellar amateur career, winning gold at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and racking up a record of 135 wins out of 144 fights.

One man Cruz was able to get the better of, on not one, not two, not three, but four occasions, is none other than Keyshawn Davis, who is open to rematching Cruz in the pros.

Davis won a world title in his last fight against Denys Berinchyk.
