Tyson Fury’s real reason for retiring revealed by former world champion: ‘I spoke to somebody close to his team’

There could be a very interesting explanation behind why Tyson Fury retired from boxing.

Not for the first time, in the aftermath of his second defeat to Oleksandr Usyk, ‘The Gypsy King’ announced he was hanging up his gloves.

In his epic career, Fury enjoyed many a memorable moment, from rising like The Undertaker against Deontay Wilder, to sending Dillian Whyte spiraling towards the canvas in front of a packed-out house at Wembley Stadium.

But now, it could all be over, with a Hall of Famer claiming he knows why the Brit has called it a day.

Carl Froch says Tyson Fury knows he’s past his prime

In 2015, Tyson Fury boxed rings around Wladimir Klitschko, rendering the great Ukrainian bamboozled with his erratic movement.

However, the Englishman is no longer that fighter, with shots he once would’ve slipped, now landing on the target.

Carl Froch insists the giant is aware that his best days are in the rearview mirror, and that’s likely why he’s waving goodbye to the sport.

In an interview with Action Network, ‘The Cobra’ said: “I’m not sure because he is quite stubborn, and when he digs his heels in, and similar to me, he’ll double down on it. It’s like a lot of boxers. He has retired because deep down, he knows he is probably past his best and lost two fights (to Oleksandr Usyk), and I know personally he is p—–. I spoke to somebody close to his team, and he’s really frustrated and p—– off that he lost the rematch, but he did lose and lost fair and square.

“It was a close fight, but it wasn’t very entertaining, not like the first one where there were moments of excitement, and not a lot happened. I think Usyk did enough to win. He shouldn’t have any complaints apart from the frustration that he didn’t go for it.

“I thought at some stages Fury could have really gone for it towards the end and I was thinking ‘come on Fury, go and stick it on him’. Did he not have it in him, or did he think he had done enough to win? For me, I wouldn’t be happy when my head hits the pillow, losing like that. Even when I lost to Andre Ward on the scorecards, it was close, but it wasn’t a close fight. I lost by a wide margin on points in my mind despite two of the scorecards being 115-113 to Ward.

“I knew I went for it, though, and tried to throw lots of hooks and body shots and tried to let the shots go, but he was slipping, sliding, holding, and negating my work. I was frustrated, but like I said to Rob McCracken and my wife, I couldn’t do anymore. The guy was too good for me. I tried my hardest.

“I just think Tyson Fury had a bit more left in the tank and could’ve tried a little harder. He’s the bigger man and is heavier. Maybe Fury is feeling a little let down by himself, and that might bring him out of retirement one last time, and the fight with Anthony Joshua is a big fight. As much as I think it’s not as big of a fight as it could have been, and isn’t as exciting without a title. Anthony Joshua has been done a few times now and is past his best. Tyson Fury is 36, overweight, and struggles to get fit, so there’s nothing at stake apart from a bragging rights fight. It’s too late now. I’m not excited, but I appreciate it’s a big fight for Britain, and if he gets offered £100m, then he will take the fight.”

Tyson Fury has ‘serious announcement’ coming weeks after confirming retirement

While Fury is currently retired from boxing, it’s not like he hasn’t reversed that decision on previous occasions.

Taking that into account, it’s understandable why his army of supporters has remained hopeful that he might return to doing what he does best.

With that in mind, it comes as no surprise that fans are excited for the major announcement Fury is expected to make.
