Tyson Fury made headlines when he announced his shock retirement on January 13th, 2025.
Boxing promoter Frank Warren publically backed his fighter’s decision at the time and disregarded any speculation of illegitimacy in his retirement.
One of the major talking points following the retirement was that Fury’s retirement put a showdown with Anthony Joshua in jeopardy. The fight, which was on Turki Alalshikh’s dream fight wish list, was considered one of the biggest potential bouts of the year.
However, it seems as if Fury has decided to hang up his gloves following his unanimous decision loss to Oleksandr Usyk in December 2024.
Speaking on his fighter’s retirement, Warren provided the latest update on the status of Fury’s retirement.

Frank Warren provides update on Tyson Fury’s retirement
Speaking to Ring Magazine, Warren gave his current stance on Fury’s retirement and what the chances are that it was not fully solidified.
When asked what the latest news was on Fury’s retirement, Warren replied, “The latest is that he is enjoying his retirement.”
“I’ve not had a conversation [with Fury] about boxing. He’s retired. At this moment in time, he’s retired. Everyone should support him and wish him the best for it.”
Fans were skeptical about Fury’s retirement, given he had announced he was hanging up the gloves before. When asked his thoughts on the public perception, Warren gave a clear answer.
“The public aren’t getting punched in the head, are they? Or spilling blood? That’s him [Fury]. That’s his choice.”
However, Warren did passingly mention “He may come back,” when speaking about Fury.
Frank Warren feels Tyson Fury’s career is disrespected
In the same interview with Ring Magazine, Warren agreed with a statement from the host mentioning that Fury’s career was often disrespected.
Speaking on Fury, Warren labeled the now-retired fighter as an inspiration, giving special mention to the ‘Gypsy King’s’ handling of Bipolar Disorder.
The boxing promoter feels that Fury’s mental struggles were often not the subject of consideration from media and fans. “You should look at him for what’s he done in the ring, and what he’s done in the ring is magnificent.”
Warren gave credit to Fury’s achievements both in and outside of the ring. When speaking about his boxing performances, Warren used the word “Gladiator” to describe the former champion.
He also gave a reference to Tyson’s incredible moment against Deontay Wilder in their first meeting, when highlighting his achievements.
