Tyson Fury’s former rival lays out Deontay Wilder-inspired gameplan to dethrone Oleksandr Usyk in upcoming rematch

One of Tyson Fury’s former foes believes he can outbox Oleksandr Usyk by reverting to what made him successful against Deontay Wilder.

Tyson Fury is out for revenge as he prepares to run it back with Oleksandr Usyk this Saturday in Riyadh. He returns to the ring after suffering his first career loss to Usyk back in May by split decision.

Fury has made several changes to his pre-fight preparations for Usyk ahead of their rematch. He’ll enter the ring at a career-high weight in a potential nod to a more aggressive approach on Saturday.

Fury cemented himself as a global boxing superstar when he defeated Deontay Wilder twice in their heavyweight trilogy. One of Fury’s former foes thinks he should revisit what made him successful against Wilder as he finalizes his gameplan for the Usyk rematch.

Dillian Whyte encourages Tyson Fury to use approach he utilized during Deontay Wilder trilogy

During a recent appearance on talkSPORT Breakfast, Dillian Whyte implored Fury to return to the style that led to him stopping Wilder twice.

“I think Fury can [get his revenge]… he’s big enough and smart enough and experienced enough to make the adjustment,” Whyte said of Fury. “I personally think he needs to be aggressive and try and rough him up.

“He needs to fight him like he fought Deontay Wilder the second time and Steve Cunningham. Fury got up and got physical and started pushing him and started manhandling him and started roughing him up. He might lose a couple of points but who cares, just go in there. He needs to try and circle Oleksandr Usyk and try to rough him up.” (h/t talkSPORT)

Whyte lost to Fury by TKO in 2022, in Fury’s first fight since the Wilder trilogy. Before the loss to Usyk, Fury was unbeaten in his professional boxing career through his first 35 fights.

Tyson Fury gets advice from former rival Dillian Whyte ahead of Oleksandr Usyk rematch

After getting knocked down multiple times in his first fight with Wilder, Fury made several major adjustments in their final two fights. He utilized a more intelligent game plan to frustrate Wilder and eventually finished him twice.

Fury will have to combat Usyk’s signature jab in their rematch, which found a common home in their first fight earlier this year. He’ll enter the ring in arguably a ‘must-win’ situation as he looks to reclaim his titles.

If Fury utilizes a dirtier approach against Usyk in the ring, he could potentially find a lot of success, according to his former foe Whyte. One of the biggest heavyweight fights in boxing history could come down to what adjustments Fury makes.
