Tyson Fury to make horse racing debut ahead of Usyk rematch

Tyson Fury is set to step into a brand new sport as he gears up for his rematch with Oleksandr Usyk.

Tyson Fury is preparing to do battle with Oleksandr Usyk in December after losing to the Ukrainian in May.

But away from the heavyweight world, Fury has dipped his toes into another sport in the form of horse racing.

Tyson Fury set to enter the world of horse racing

This Friday (August 16), Fury’s two-year-old racehorse, Big Gypsy King, will run at Newmarket course, England at 12:45 (EST).

The ‘Gypsy King’ himself will also be in attendance to see if his new investment can deliver another win for the Fury family.

Darryl Holland, the horse’s trainer, believes that they could have a future race winner on their hands and that he is looking forward to meeting Fury.

He told The Sun: “Big Gypsy King is a very nice filly and has a big build — just like her owner!

“Traditionally, horses have been a big part of Tyson’s family. I was introduced to Tyson’s manager Spencer Brown, and things just went from there. I’m really pleased Tyson is now part of the team.

“They are very busy people, but they wanted to come and see the horse run and, thankfully, it has worked out as Tyson will soon be getting ready for his rematch with Usyk in Saudi Arabia. Hopefully, if Big Gypsy King does well Tyson might get a few more.”

Tyson Fury preparing for huge rematch against Usyk

Defeat in Saudi Arabia was the first time he had been on the losing end in his career and the ‘Gypsy King’ is plotting his challenge to win the WBC, WBO and WBA belts on December 21.

The only belt that won’t be on the line is the IBF title after Usyk made the big decision to vacate the belt following his failure to fulfil his mandatory rights.

Anthony Joshua and Daniel Dubois will fight it out for the belt on September 21 and the winner will face one of Fury or the Ukrainian.

Tyson Fury has one last chance against Usyk

To suffer defeat just once throughout your career is an accolade many could dream of but when you’re one of the best heavyweight boxers of all time like Fury, one defeat could spell the end.

At the age of 36 it’s fair to say that Fury is in the latter stages of his career and Carl Froch believes that defeat to Usyk again would mean the end of the road for the ‘Gypsy King’ and boxing.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Froch said: “If he loses to Usyk, I think that will be the last we see of Tyson Fury.

“If he goes out and earns another £50m and then he gets beat again, he isn’t going to fight again.

“He’s been great for the sport, but if Usyk does the job, which I think he does, [then I think he will] turn it in.”
