Tyson Fury reveals emotional sacrifice to prepare himself for Oleksandr Usyk rematch

Tyson Fury has locked himself away for an intense three-month training camp ahead of his fiercely anticipated rematch with Oleksandr Usyk.

The pair will square off this Saturday in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, after delivering an iconic battle for the undisputed heavyweight crown back in May.

This time, however, just three of the four major titles are up for grabs, with Oleksandr Usyk having relinquished his IBF strap several months ago.

But regardless of the belts, Tyson Fury will have the opportunity to become the bona fide heavyweight king should he exact revenge on his rival.

Tyson Fury has not spoken to his wife, Paris Fury, in three months

In their first encounter, Usyk was able to edge a split decision after scoring a stunning standing count against his opponent in the ninth round.

But still, Fury had his pockets of success too, often catching the Ukrainian with a spiteful barrage of shots in the middle rounds.

At the same time, though, it seemed as if ‘The Gypsy King’ lacked his usual assertiveness, failing to maintain his focus throughout the 12 pulsating rounds.

And while he insists on not making any excuses, Fury revealed that his wife, Paris, had suffered a miscarriage on the day before their fight.

Of course, this would have been a tremendously difficult obstacle to overcome, given the well-documented love that he has for his family.

And so, in order to isolate himself from the outside world, Fury has spent the majority of this training camp in Malta.

“It’s been a long camp,” Fury told boxing broadcaster Dev Sahni on Instagram. “Been away from my wife and kids for three months. I’ve not spoken to Paris at all in three months, not one word. Yeah, been sacrificed a lot.”

How has Tyson Fury’s sacrifice prepared him for Oleksandr Usyk rematch?

It is no secret that boxers will often spend time away from their families during training camp, eliminating any possible distractions that could hamper their preparation.

And while Fury is no different, the length of time that he has spent away from his loved ones could have an undesirable effect on his performance come fight night.

The 36-year-old has, after all, spoken openly about wanting to get home for Christmas, and while his words are often misleading, it is difficult to look past the potential ramifications of his lengthy camp.
