Tyrrell Herndon admits he needs ‘jet fuel’ in his tank to beat Deontay Wilder in his biggest fight yet

Tyrrell Herndon knows his fight with Deontay Wilder will be tough as he prepares to face the former Heavyweight champion.

After more than a year away from the ring, Deontay Wilder will return to the ring to battle relative unknown Tyrrell Herndon on June 27.

The “Bronze Bomber” is looking to bounce back from four defeats in his last five, including Wilder’s back-to-back losses to Tyson Fury, with a win over Herndon.

Herndon knows it will be a tough fight and has outlandishly claimed exactly what he needs to beat the former champion Wilder, who was recently knocked out by Zhilei Zhang.

Tyrrell Herndon knows he needs ‘jet fuel’ cardio for Deontay Wilder fight

Herndon knows he needs to be at his peak condition to beat Wilder, and has been training like a madman in the build-up to the fight.

He spoke with KABB Fox San Antonio, where the 37-year-old admitted he needs “jet fuel” in his tank to keep up with the former world champion.

Herndon said: “We’ve just been putting in work. Overtime. Cardio has been ramped up.

“This tank I have? It’s gotta be jet fuel for a fight like this. So by default, it allowed me to shed some pounds I didn’t even know I had.

To have the honor to even get a fight like this, and knowing what’s at stake. It kind of just makes you put everything in overdrive: from the way you eat, to the way you train, to the way you think.”

Wilder is one of the fastest and strongest punchers in the heavyweight division, so it will be a big ask for Herndon to keep up with him on June 27.

Teddy Atlas predicted exactly what round Deontay Wilder will knock out Tyrrell Herndon

Teddy Atlas thinks the fight between Wilder and Herndon will be a short one, but it will take the former champion a minute to get into the fight.

The former boxing coach predicts that Wilder will be “tentative” after his recent losses, and told his audience on his YouTube channel that he predicts the fight will end in the third round.

Atlas picked Wilder as the winner via knockout, saying: “Wilder is not on the upswing. Wilder might be a little tentative now, coming off the losses he is coming off, at 39 years old.

“It’s going to buy Herndon a little time. Wilder is not going to go right after him like he would have if he was younger or he was undefeated or 100% confident.

“It’s going to take him a minute to get his feet under him. Get his sea legs back where he can feel good again. So, I am going to go three rounds.”

Of his 43 wins in boxing, Wilder has knocked out his opponents 42 times. If he does beat Herndon, it’s hard to see it as any other way but via KO.
