Tim Tszyu names surprise inspiration behind latest KO ahead of Pacquiao card

Tim Tszyu vs Sebastian Fundora 2 will feature as the co-main event under Manny Pacquiao vs Mario Barrios.

Manny Pacquiao will make his return to the ring on July 19th, hoping to win a world title against Mario Barrios.

In the co-main event, Tim Tszyu will rematch Sebastian Fundora after their first fight turned into one of the bloodiest nights of boxing in recent times.

The fight will mark Tszyu’s attempt to rewrite history, as he has had a few ups and downs since losing his title to Fundora.

Tim Tszyu was inspired by David Benavidez in KO over Joey Spencer

Following his close loss to Fundora, which was in large part attributed to a cut that impaired Tszyu’s vision, the Aussie fighter embarked on another bid for a world title, facing Bakhram Murtazaliev.

This didn’t go as planned, with Tszyu being blitzed by Murtazaliev, who stopped him in three rounds.

In his comeback fight after back-to-back losses, Tszyu took on 19-1 Joey Spencer.

Tszyu looked more himself in this fight, as his relentless pressure saw him stop Spencer in the fourth.

Speaking on the fight ahead of his rematch with Fundora, Tszyu said:

“You know what, I was watching Benavidez the day before. This time I was like ‘Damn, Benavidez’.”

Manny Pacquiao’s rival dethroned Tim Tszyu’s father

In 2005, Tim Tszyu’s father, the legendary Kostya Tszyu, took on Ricky ‘The Hitman’ Hatton in defense of his IBF super-lightweight world title.

Hatton proved his excellence that night, forcing an eleventh-round stoppage over the great.

Years later, in 2009, Hatton faced Pacquiao, and was stopped in just two rounds after being dropped twice in the first.
