Jake Paul will face Julio Cesar Chavez later this month in what may prove to be one of his toughest fights to date.
Jake Paul is consistently criticized for his route into boxing and his choice of opposition. With his next fight coming against an aged and inactive Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., these criticisms aren’t going away anytime soon.
Paul’s last outing saw him defeat Mike Tyson, who looked every bit his age, in a lopsided unanimous decision.
Despite the level of opposition, Paul garners much attention and controversy with every fight, a strategy that has netted the former YouTuber millions.

Jake Paul reveals how he’s earned more than $150M from boxing
In an appearance on The Iced Coffee Hour, Paul was asked if rumors of him earning $40M for one of his fights were correct.
Paul, who retired 75% of his opponents, responded: “That’s true, yeah, I’ve roughly been averaging around 40 million dollars a year for the past four years in boxing. The first, like, year/ year and a half of boxing I didn’t make much.”
With an average of $40M each year for the past four years, Paul has amassed approximately $160M from his move into the combat sport.
Paul explained how his villain persona made these earnings possible: “In boxing, the villain makes more, and that’s why I purposely make people hate me and like play that role, be the bad guy because, what are you gonna pay more [for]? You wanna pay for the pay-per-view or tune into Netflix to see the guy get knocked out that you hate.”
Paul, who eyed a fight with Anthony Joshua, maintained that he’s worked hard for his earnings, but did stress how grateful he is for the opportunities he’s had.
Jake Paul is facing a former world champion next
Paul’s next opponent, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., is the son of boxing legend Julio Cesar Chavez, and led an impressive career of his own.

Chavez Jr. is a former WBC middleweight world champion, and boasts a record of 54-6-1.
He has fought just once, against a 1-0 opponent, in the last four years, and was beaten by UFC fighter and former Paul opponent Anderson Silva in 2021.
Chavez Jr. lost to Daniel Jacobs in his worst night on the job.
