‘The opponent is set’… Ryan Garcia signs deal for comeback fight after drug ban

Boxing’s golden boy looks to have a fight inked for 2025.

Ryan Garcia is fast approaching the tail-end of his one-year suspension from boxing as a result of testing positive for ostarine after defeating Devin Haney in April 2024; The result was quickly overturned.

Since then, Garcia was booked to fight Japanese kickboxer Rukiya Anpo in a boxing exhibition at RIZIN 49 but pulled out after a wrist injury and reported contract disputes. Now, with the confirmation of The Ring and Turki Alalshikh, Garcia has a fight planned.

Ryan Garcia to fight on same card as Devin Haney

Riyadh Season figurehead Alalshikh announced in a post on X that Garcia had signed a deal. There is no news of an opponent yet, but the big news is “coming soon.”

The news was later confirmed in an official breaking news post by the Alalshikh-owned Ring Magazine.

Who next for Ryan Garcia

The big money fight for Garcia is the Haney rematch, which he is inevitably working towards with this booking. Though no details have been disclosed, they will fight on the same card.

Despite Garcia’s heated confrontation with Conor Benn at the Ring Award show, he won’t fight Benn on the night since the Brit is confirmed to face Chris Eubank Jr. later this year. It’s looking more likely that Garcia will fight WBO super lightweight champion Teofimo Lopez, who retweeted the signing announcement with, “Let the games begin!”

The narrative is there, with Lopez blasting Garcia, among other boxers, for wasting his time in fight negotiations last December.
