“That’s illegal”… Fans react to claims Gervonta Davis attempted to bite Lamont Roach Jr. in worst night of his career

Gervonta Davis’ most recent opponent, Lamont Roach Jr., has stoked rumors that the Baltimore champ attempted to bite him in their encounter.

Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis fought to a draw with Lamont Roach Jr. in what many believe to be a highly controversial result following an unscored knockdown of Davis.

Had the knockdown been scored, the Baltimore champ may well have met his first career defeat earlier this month.

Now that the controversy surrounding the knockdown has cleared, Roach Jr. has taken to YouTube with a claim that Davis attempted to bite him during their contest.

Fans are divided on this, and many believe the footage may show something else entirely.

“He tried to bite me”… Fans are divided after Lamont Roach Jr. criticizes Davis for illegal foul

In the near-hour-long video of Roach reacting to their fight, he says:

“That’s when he tried to bite me. I ain’t even notice that until somebody said something.”

Roach seems convinced that the footage, which shows Davis and Roach in a clinch, shows Tank committing a foul, but some fans aren’t so convinced:

“Lamont said something and Tank responded to it. Nobody bit anyone. Stop the paid PR.”

“He was trying to push his mouth piece in relaxxx”

Others maintain that Tank was in fact playing dirty:

“Just like Mike Tyson, if someone can stand up to him he gets dirty or complains”

“His mental fragility has been very obvious to me for years now. This fight confirmed to me why he hasn’t stepped up, he’d fall apart at the highest levels.”

Gervonta Davis tweeted about his bite back in 2012

In a bizarre turn of events, it seems Davis foreshadowed Roach’s claims in some way with a tweet he posted in 2012, in which he says:

Tank was, of course, not referring to any antics inside the ring, but it’s interesting that the tweet has been picked up by fans following Roach’s claims.

It is unclear who Davis will fight next, with many believing Tank must rematch his amateur rival in Roach before moving on. Some suggest a Davis vs Naoya Inoue mega-fight should be his next move, whilst others point to Shakur Stevenson or Vasyl Lomachenko, who has stated Davis is his preferred next opponent.
