Throughout his professional career, Shakur Stevenson has proven himself as one of the most naturally gifted athletes in all of boxing.
Blessed with an awe-inspiring fight IQ, the American has an innate ability to dance rings around his opponents, watching them miss wildly, before connecting with his own snappy blows.
Alas, while clearly an exceptional fighter, his style inside the squared circle isn’t to everyone’s taste, with some taking issue with his lack of explosive knockouts.
Mikey Garcia is adamant that because of this, Gervonta Davis should avoid the much-discussed collision and face another boxing icon instead.
In an interview with Fight Hub TV, the legend explained: “Shakur Stevenson is a great fighter as far as skills go. He’s super talented with footwork, speed, and counter-punching ability. He’s one of the very best.
“But I’m not a fan of that fight. Shakur Stevenson is the kind of fighter who’s going to fight his fight regardless of what the critics or fans want to see.
“That’s fine, that’s his style. But as a fight fan, it turns me off. As a fighter, I give all the respect to the skills. His talent is great.
“I’d much rather see ‘Tank’ fight other guys like Vasiliy Lomachenko. I know Lomachenko is there to fight. Shakur Stevenson isn’t going to be as exciting of a match-up. That’s why he’ll have a hard time getting some of these fights.”

While Garcia isn’t keen to see Stevenson and Davis trade leather inside the ring, there’s an army of fans around the world that would love to see them throw down.
The bout would not only match-up two quality fighters but also settle a heated rivalry.
While they haven’t shared a professional ring, the pair have sparred together, with Stevenson accusing his nemesis of lying about what occurred in those rounds.
