Terence Crawford stopped ‘The Special One’ with damaging knockout win in final world title fight

Long before his undisputed welterweight title success, unbeaten finisher Terence Crawford turned in a splendid run of consecutive knockout wins, keeping his finish rate sky-high.

Making his welterweight move proper against Jeff Horn back in 2018, Omaha native Terence Crawford would stop the former school teacher with a knockout win to clinch the WBO crown on his divisional debut.

When matched with Jose Benavidez Jr. — Crawford stopped the unbeaten Californian with another knockout win before taking out British veteran Amir Khan during that stunning run of defenses.

But en route to his undisputed title win, Crawford would send another British star packing in their final pursuit of a world championship.

Terence Crawford rocked ‘The Special One’ in penultimate career fight

Booked with British stalwart Kell Brook in a bid to lodge his fourth defense of the WBO welterweight crown, Nebraska pugilist Crawford put his title up for grabs atop a card at the MGM Grand Conference Center.

And during an era with fan attendance limited, Crawford — utilizing his southpaw stance — patiently set up a killer blow on Brook’s chin in the fourth round.

Sneaking a straight right between the guard of Brook midway through the round, Crawford sent the challenger hurtling toward the ropes in big trouble.

Surviving a standing eight count by the referee, Brook was mauled soon thereafter by Crawford — this time unloading a slew of right and left hooks to force the finish.

Following the loss, Brook would never fight for a world championship again before stopping the above-mentioned Khan in his retirement fight two years later.

Terence Crawford’s masterful undisputed title win

And setting up his title super fight with Canelo Alvarez next month, Crawford would go on to land the undisputed welterweight title fight three years after his knockout of Brook.

Finally booked against Errol Spence Jr., Crawford shone to his absolute brightest against the unbeaten welterweight star.

Revered as one of the greatest displays in the ring of the modern era, in the ninth round, Crawford had forced another knockout win, stopping Spence Jr.

Dropping Spence Jr. thrice during their clash, Crawford — at his sparkling best — forced a ninth-round stoppage, adding the WBA, WBC, IBF, and The Ring welterweight crowns to his gleaming mantel.
