‘Simple’… Devin Haney reveals major stumbling block in Ryan Garcia rematch talks

Devin Haney and Ryan Garcia competed in a hugely controversial bout in 2024, however, it is unconfirmed whether the two will rematch.

Haney was defeated by Garcia in their meeting at the Barclays Centre in Brooklyn but still maintains his undefeated record as the bout was overturned to a no-contest.

The result of the fight was changed due to Garcia failing a drug test following the bout and resulted in him being banned for 12 months from boxing.

Haney announced that he would return to boxing in March, which would rule out a rematch with Garcia as his suspension lasts until the 20th of April. However, both men expressed interest in the rematch in recent days, refueling the rumors they may compete this year.

Devin Haney points finger at Ryan Garcia for preventing rematch

Tensions have once again begun to flare between Haney and Garcia as the pair were in attendance for the Ring Magazine awards in London last Saturday.

Replying to a video of a brief interaction between the pair, Garcia tweeted saying, “You are going to get that call [to fight]… Just shut up, take the deal, drop the lawsuit, and do what you’re told.”

Haney then responded to Garcia on his X account by saying, “We got our offer from @Turki_alalshikh already & accepted it. Now it’s time for you to accept & yes you have to start drug testing now.”

The following day, Haney implied that he would face Garcia in a rematch and that his rival had made progress in accepting the fight, “I guess he’s not a duck… he’s a goose. See you soon bucko!”

However, this social media post was followed by another insinuating there are still roadblocks for their rematch.

Haney has said that he will not be willing to Garcia without year-round drug testing, and has said that ‘King Ry’ isn’t interested in fulfilling his request.

“Ryan don’t wanna do 365 testing.”

There is currently no date in talks for a rematch, however, a potential bout would have to take place after April 20th due to Garcia’s suspension.

Ryan Garcia clashes with Conor Benn in London

Although Garcia’s interaction with Haney was relatively calm, the same cannot be said about his run-in with Conor Benn.

The altercation began as Garcia was asked if would he consider a fight with Ben by IFL TV, to which the boxer responded, “Yeah, of course I would fight him.”

As Garcia went on to make his case he would be the victor, Benn, who was right beside Garcia, said “Don’t be talking s*** in my city.”

The two then exchanged words before a push from Benn would cause security to intervene and separate the pair.
