Ryan Garcia says he ‘didn’t even care’ about Rolly Romero fight in bizarre rant amid December rematch talks

Ryan Garcia didn’t hold back on his detractors of his last performance ahead of a potential Rolly Romero rematch.

Ryan Garcia and Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero are reportedly days away from potentially having an immediate rematch secured for later this year. Garcia lost to Romero by decision in a shocking result back in May, in his first fight since an upset win over Devin Haney that was later overturned.

In the immediate aftermath of Garcia and Romero’s fight, Garcia seemed to take the loss in stride in his post-fight interview, giving Romero credit for his performance. But that has dramatically changed in recent weeks as rematch talks move forward.

Ryan Garcia hits back at critics of Rolando Romero loss as rematch talks progress

Garcia, one of boxing’s most polarizing stars, isn’t afraid to speak his mind on a variety of topics. After initially accepting the Romero loss publicly, Garcia took a different angle in a recent social media rant.

During a recent Instagram live stream, Garcia hit back at critics of his performance as a potential rematch with Romero draws near.

“Didn’t even knock me out or throw punches, that’s sad,” Garcia said. “I’m coming back and it’s going to be vicious. You guys are trolling me over a fight I didn’t even care about. It was a boring fight…

“I was an emotional person because of what I was going through internally…I had a high after beating Devin, and s*** just went south after that. Highs, lows, and the real ones come back and I’m going to take over. Y’all see that I wasn’t even there, nobody was even at the fight! He beat me, but nobody really watched!

“Nobody even remembers that fight. Because I didn’t promote it and I didn’t do s***. You guys didn’t even get Ryan Garcia, you got an imposter type of thing,” Garcia continued. “I got dropped but it was whack, off-balance, wasn’t hurt. The whole event was whack and boring! But watch when I come back, I’m going to blow it up, and smack him in front of everybody.”

According to recent reports, Garcia vs. Romero 2 is in ‘advanced talks’ for a December event. As of this writing, nothing has been made official regarding the rematch, but an announcement could be made in the coming days.

Ryan Garcia vs. Devin Haney rematch on the shelf amid Rolando Romero negotiations

Romero has won three of his last four fights, including victories over Ismael Barroso and Manuel Jaimes. He’s bounced back well since a brutal knockout loss to Gervonta Davis in May 2022.

As Garcia turns his attention towards a Romero rematch, it appears a potential rematch with his former rival Haney is indefinitely on hold. Garcia and Haney have traded barbs for months after their first fight, in a bout that was overturned to a no-contest after Garcia tested positive for a banned substance.

Haney will face Brian Norman Jr. on a Riyadh Season super card in November, just weeks before the proposed Garcia vs. Romero rematch. A win over Norman could turn Haney’s attention towards a second chapter in his rivalry with Garcia.
