Gervonta Davis faced his toughest test to date against Lamont Roach last night, with fans suggesting the impressive though unexpected performance from Roach should have been enough to secure a victory.
Gervonta Davis fell short of a win last night for the first time in his career. His record now sits at 30-0-1 as he fought to a majority decision draw against Lamont Roach.
Tank boasts 28 knockouts to his 30 wins, and Roach has become just the second man to go a full twelve-round distance with the explosive puncher.
The only other man is Isaac Cruz, who Mike Tyson revealed he sees much of himself in.
The fight was not without its controversy, as Davis voluntarily took a knee, ran to his corner, got his face wiped, and returned without a knockdown being called by the referee.
This, combined with already razor-thin scorecards, led many to believe Roach should’ve got the nod, including one of Davis’ former rivals – Ryan Garcia.

Ryan Garcia on Gervonta Davis vs Lamont Roach: ‘Makes boxing look bad’
Garcia had much to say about the fight, which he scored in favor of Roach, who he believes did what he couldn’t.
Garcia and Davis fought in 2023 when Davis handed Garcia his first and only professional defeat with a lethal body shot that left Garcia unable to stand.
Garcia said of the fight: “Lamont won that. Not calling that a knockdown is the most wild thing I ever seen in boxing, that type of stuff makes boxing look bad.”
Davis stated the reason for taking a knee was because he had grease in his eye from getting his hair done. He was booed whilst explaining this and seemed shocked to be on the wrong side of fans for the first time in his career.
Davis and Roach have fought before twice in the amateurs, and Roach said their his first encounter with Davis was also marred by erroneous scoring.
Garcia is set to return to the ring himself on May 2nd against Tank’s former opponent, Rolly Romero.
Gervonta Davis hits back at Terence Crawford over knockdown
In his first post on social media since fighting to a draw with Roach, Tank has targeted Terence Crawford, who posted during the fight:
“I never seen someone take a knee and they don’t count it as a knock down. Must of forgot the rules for tonight.”
Tank’s response is merely a repost of someone else’s response, which shows Crawford’s knee touch down on the canvas against Egidijus Kavaliauskas in 2019, which at the time was not ruled a knockdown.
Though the difference is whether this was a knockdown or not, Crawford still went on to stop Kavaliauskas in the ninth round, whereas Tank’s knockdown not being scored cost Roach a career-defining win.
