Roman ‘Chocolatito’ Gonzalez targets super flyweight showdown with Jesse ‘Bam’ Rodriguez following WBC ruling

Roman ‘Chololatito’ Gonzalez looks to further enhance his decorated legacy in a potential crossroads battle with pound-for-pound star Jesse ‘Bam’ Rodriguez.

The living legend has become an icon of the lower divisions, captivating combat sports fans with his relentless pressure fighting and dynamic repertoire of attacks.

Having already become a four-division belt holder, beating the likes of Juan Francisco Estrada and Carlos Cuadras, the 37-year-old has very little left to prove.

And yet, even at this late stage of his illustrious career, Gonzalez remains determined to be remembered as one of the greatest to lace up the gloves.

WBC order final eliminator between Roman ‘Chocolatito’ Gonzalez and Andrew Moloney

After making his bantamweight debut earlier this year, many expected that ‘Chocolatito’ would aim to become a five-weight world champion.

But while that would certainly be a remarkable feat, the Nicaraguan has seemingly chosen to remain at a more natural weight of 115 lbs.

It seems as though Gonzalez’s decision has been rewarded, too, with the WBC ordering a final eliminator against former world champion Andrew Moloney.

Following his crushing 12th-round stoppage defeat to pulverizing puncher Junto Nakatani, Moloney returned to the win column before losing a highly contentious split decision to Pedro Guevara back in May.

But, due to the controversial nature of his fourth professional blemish, the Australian has been presented with an opportunity to catapult himself back into the mix.

And while purse bids are yet to be ordered, Michael Benson has reported that the winner of Gonzalez and Moloney’s potential clash will become the mandatory challenger for WBC titlist Jesse Rodriguez.

Will Jesse ‘Bam’ Rodriguez face the winner of Roman ‘Chocolatito’ Gonzalez vs. Andrew Moloney?

While Moloney engaged in a fiercely contested battle with Guevara, ‘Bam’ was able to dispatch the same opponent with an emphatic third-round finish.

Since taking care of his mandatory challenger, the 24-year-old has expressed a desire to unify the super flyweight division.

But while his ultimate goal is to become the undisputed king, Gonzalez has also been mooted as a possible option.

So now, despite his next mandatory obligation remaining a fair distance away, it would appear that the two elite level technicians could, after all, lock horns in a mouthwatering matchup.
