‘Pieced up’… Fans react as brother of former world champion suffers shock defeat in TKO loss

Jack Catterall and Harlem Eubank headlined an event in Manchester on Saturday night that would see fight fans entertained by the action on the card.

Although the main event was cut short due to an accidental headbutt, it was Catterall who would emerge the victor.

In the seventh round, the bout was brought to a halt as the cousin of Chris Eubank Jr. fell to his first loss, as his record is now 21-1.

For Catterall, he once again showed that he is a world-level competitor, outpointing his fellow countryman to win via technical decision.

Catterall was able to win the bout as a sizeable favorite. However, there was one highly-regarded fighter who could not do the same.

William Crolla suffers first loss in shock TKO defeat to Fraser Wilkinson

On the undercard of Catterall vs Eubank, brother of former world lightweight champion Anthony Crolla, William Crolla, suffered his first professional loss.

Paired up with Fraser Wilkinson from Scotland, who had a 12-2 record, Crolla was a significant favorite going into the super welterweight bout.

Crolla’s record fell to 8-1 as he was stopped in the sixth round of a bout scheduled for eight to lose his unbeaten streak.

It wasn’t a flash shot from the Scottish fighter that ended the night for Crolla, instead, it was a dominant underdog performance.

Leading the bout for as long as it lasted, Wilkinson dropped Crolla in the fifth round. Just after the minute mark of the sixth round, the referee had seen enough as Crolla was waved off.

It was just Wilkinson’s third victory via stoppage, as his last fight was a points win over Jordan Grannum (12-157-5).

Fans react to William Crolla’s first-ever loss to Fraser Wilkinson

There was a mixture of responses from fans online following Crolla suffering the first defeat of his career.

Some fans were critical of Crolla’s performance. This includes comments such as, “Crolla bending down caused the ref to step in. Only himself to blame,” and “Another over-privileged, bang average, novice boxer hyped up purely because of his last name being found out. Superb stuff.”

Others gave credit to the underdog performance from the Scotsman by saying, “Wilkinson the much better fighter. Well-deserved win,” and “[Wilkinson] Whooped Crolla’s —.”

Despite the one-sided showing from Wilkinson, some fans also felt the stoppage was an early one. Among comments on X were, “Looks a tad early on the stoppage for me,” and “Sick of refs stopping fights when guys are on their feet.”
