Oscar De La Hoya teases Ryan Garcia return and calls out former undisputed champion

Ryan Garcia has largely remained in the spotlight following his controversial clash with Devin Haney earlier this year.

The social media star floored his amateur rival three times before edging a majority decision back in April, only for the result to be overturned to a no-contest.

Ryan Garcia ultimately had his dominant win taken away once it emerged that trace amounts of ostarine, a performance-enhancing substance, were found within his system.

And so, with the 26-year-old’s relatively lenient ban lasting up until April 20 of next year, his promoter, Oscar De La Hoya, is already planning what will be a fiercely polarizing comeback.

Oscar De La Hoya names Teofimo Lopez as a potential opponent for Ryan Garcia

Since their showdown, Devin Haney and his father, Bill, have filed a lawsuit against Garcia, alleging battery fraud and unjust enrichment.

So far, their legal action has amounted to very little, with several boxing pundits such as Timothy Bradley slamming Haney for his response in defeat.

But, then again, several members of the boxing fraternity, including Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn, have backed Haney and, more importantly, expressed a desire to see an end to doping.

Regardless of his Haney’s lawsuit, though, De La Hoya is seemingly determined to deliver a blockbuster fight for Garcia in 2025.

The two-time Hall of Fame inductee has, in fact, mentioned WBO super lightweight world champion Toefimo Lopez as a possible opponent.

Lopez comes off two uninspiring victories against Steve Claggett and Jamaine Ortiz, following his scintillating performance to dethrone former undisputed king Josh Taylor last year.

Nevertheless, a clash between the American and Garcia would certainly make for an explosive affair.

Despite being in the process of getting sued by team Haney, Garcia has seemingly continued to go about his business as if nothing has happened.

In doing so, he has resumed his unrelenting activity on social media, posting a recent clip of himself recreating one of the knockdowns from his dustup with Haney.

The video, which was more so directed at Bill Haney, has been accompanied by several additional posts on Garcia’s X account, poking fun at the ongoing lawsuit against him.
