Opponent Canelo blitzed in three rounds shares his view on Terence Crawford mega-fight

Canelo Alvarez is gearing up for a pound-for-pound skirmish against Terence ‘Bud’ Crawford later this year.

Terence Crawford will put his undefeated status on the line as he jumps two weight classes to vie for greatness against the current face of boxing.

Canelo is now 63-2-2 having lost only to Floyd Mayweather years ago, and Dmitry Bivol after an unsuccessful jump up to light-heavyweight.

One of the men Canelo has shared the ring with, perhaps one of his easiest opponents ever, has given his opinion on the mega-fight.

Rocky Fielding believes Canelo will do the job against Terence Crawford

In an interview with Boxing King Media, Rocky Fielding, who faced Canelo in 2018, had his say on the fight, which will feature on streaming giant, Netflix.

Fielding said he does believe Canelo is winding down, but that he can still get the win: “I look now like his last five, six fights have gone the distance. Like, I don’t know, like, if the age is catching up or the camps are catching up. […] The pace has dropped. The power’s gone.”

“Someone who’s coming up vs someone who’s there.”

Fielding suggested it all comes down to weight, and picked Canelo as the likely victor: “I’d probably pick Canelo with it being his weight.”

Canelo defeated Fielding in just three rounds in their fight, and the Liverpudlian retired four years later after losing to Dan Azeez.

Canelo negotiated with a cartel to release his brother who they had kidnapped just hours before fighting Fielding.

Shane Mosley thinks Canelo beats Crawford, too. Crawford’s former foe, Kell Brook, also thinks Canelo beats Bud.

Canelo hasn’t scored a KO in four years despite fighting seven times

Fielding’s observation that Canelo is winding down is certainly not without its reasoning, as the Mexican star went from being a knockout machine to taking every opponent the distance in recent years.

Lackluster opposition such as William Scull, Edgar Berlanga, and John Ryder, might have once been destined for a visit to the canvas and an early finish, but that wasn’t the case.

Canelo was able to drop four of his recent seven opponents – Berlanga, Charlo, Ryder, and Munguia, but hasn’t stopped a foe since he fought Caleb Plant in 2021.
