In 2008 at the Beijing Olympics, Light Heavyweight boxer, Tony Jeffries represented the United Kingdom in boxing, winning the bronze medal.
After realizing success in the Olympics, Tony Jeffries didn’t go on to have the professional career that many may have expected.
In 2012, the Brit made the decision to retire from boxing after his hands failed to heal from surgery as he was attempting to address long term problems with his hands.
Since his retirement, ‘The Mighty Mackem’ has turned his attention to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and in 2024, he competed in his first competition and even won gold.

Tony Jeffries sets new world record for the most punches thrown in 24 hours
As well as BJJ, Jeffries has been growing his YouTube channel where he posts educational videos on how to box in a way that doesn’t get taught much anymore. He has amassed over 2 million subscribers on his account, making him one of the most followed boxing channels on the platform.
However, BJJ and YouTube aren’t the only things Jeffries has been up to since his retirement as the Brit recently attempted to set a new world record for the most amount of full extension punches landed in 24 hours.
Jeffries astonishingly successfully set the new record after landing 146,742 punches in a 24-hour period.
“So 24 hours of hard work and I get one of these, absolutely buzzing. Thank you to everyone who supports me, I’m really tired,” Jeffries said after breaking the record.
In between hours of punching the heavy bag, Jeffries would take a break, sometimes including receiving a quick massage and rehydrating with liquids and food.
The 40-year-old’s record breaks down to 6114 punches per hour, 102 punches per minute, and 1.6 punches a second.
Who is the next British boxing star?
British boxing has always had several stars, however, there are currently no standout stars following the regression of both Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury.
The two heavyweight behemoths have been linked to fight each other for several years now but Fury’s retirement at the end of last year ruined any chances of that happening.
Despite that, promoter, Eddie Hearn is still confident of tempting Fury out of retirement to put on what would be a big fight for British boxing.
