Oleksandr Usyk finally breaks his silence on Tyson Fury’s shock retirement

The undefeated Ukrainian could end up being the last man to share the ring with ‘The Gypsy King’.

With two spectacular back-to-back performances, Oleksandr Usyk became the first opponent to beat Tyson Fury in a boxing match.

The former undisputed cruiserweight champion achieved dominance in a second weight class by holding the titles and outscoring ‘The Gypsy King’ on two occasions in 2024.

Shortly after their second fight, which Fury disputed the judges decision of, the 36-year-old announced via a brief social media video that he is retiring from boxing.

It remains unclear whether this is now a total of four fake announcements from Fury as he looks to use this as a bargaining chip or whether this really is the end for one of the greatest heavyweights of all time.

Oleksandr Usyk says “boxing is a drug” in response to Tyson Fury’s retirement announcement

Like many fight fans, Oleksandr Usyk isn’t entirely convinced that this truly is the last that we have seen of Tyson Fury.

Even after suffering the first two losses of his career, a huge fight with Anthony Joshua is still on the table even if it’s just for one more payday to see a clash that fans have been speaking about for years upon years.

Usyk recently spoke about his former foe’s announcement in an interview with talkSPORT where he said about how difficult the sport can be to walk away from.

He isn’t dwelling on the decision of ‘The Gypsy King’ but believes that some time away might result in him being drawn back into the ring.

“I don’t think about it but I think it is not true. Once Tyson has relaxed, and rested, maybe Tyson will be back. Boxing if you do this for a long time: 10, 15, 20, 25 years then boxing is like a drug. If you don’t go to training one day then you feel dead. For me, at least. I train every day. I don’t do boxing every day. Sometimes I do crossfit, and running training. I only do boxing when I am in my camp.”

Would Tyson Fury be lured back into boxing?

Tyson Fury has always been an unpredictable character especially when it comes to analyzing when he’s telling the truth or playing a game.

The lack of realistic options for him in the heavyweight division right now suggests that if he’s going to come back, it would likely have to be for the Anthony Joshua fight.

Fury does love fighting so he may want to return just to compete again but at this point, he doesn’t have anything left to prove by going out there and winning any old fight.

‘The Gypsy King’ might be happy to sit on the sofa to see whether someone makes him an offer that he can’t refuse and considering the money that is in the heavyweight division right now, that seems like a smart option.
