Old footage of Tyson Fury explaining why he doesn’t want Oleksandr Usyk fight goes viral after rematch

Tyson Fury is being reminded of his previous comments after losing twice against Oleksandr Usyk.

‘The Gyspy King’ was dropped en route to a split decision defeat when they first clashed in May.

Tyson Fury‘s revenge bid fell short as he suffered a unanimous decision loss in their rematch on Saturday night.

Now old footage showing him dismissing Oleksandr Usyk has racked up millions of views on social media.

Tyson Fury’s comments come back to haunt him

In 2021, ahead of Oleksandr Usyk’s first fight with Anthony Joshua, Tyson Fury distanced himself from a potential showdown with the undefeated Ukrainian.

“He’s a small cruiserweight,” Fury said during an interview that’s gone viral since his second loss to Usyk.

“A foreigner, who doesn’t speak good English, and nobody is really interested anyway – he’s not setting anything alight. I want the big fights that people are interested in and that ain’t one of them.

He added when asked if his opinion would change if Usyk beats Joshua: “It still wouldn’t be a big fight, he’s still a foreigner in a Westernized world.

“The belts are back in the west, and they are gonna stay there. Whatever it sounds like, the heavyweight champion should be from Britain or America and nowhere else.

“That’s it because maybe in Ukraine he might be a big star, but Britain or America isn’t interested in some Ukrainian boxer boxing in Ukraine and that’s the way it is.

“The heavyweight champion of the world needs to be in the west and that’s how it goes.”

Usyk beat Joshua to take his three heavyweight world title before completing the set against Fury.

The 37-year-old was forced to relinquish his IBF strap earlier this year. Daniel Dubois, who Usyk knocked out in August 2023, has since picked up the belt and knocked out Joshua to defend it. Now he’s wants a rematch for all the heavyweight marbles.

Daniel Dubois storms the ring after Usyk vs Fury 2

In the middle of Usyk’s post-fight interview, Dubois intruded to begin to promote a possible rematch.

“Usyk! I want my revenge!” Dubois declared

“Well done tonight, well played. But I want my revenge for the robbery last time! Let’s get it. Let’s go!

“Where is Frank [Warren]? Make it happen!”

Dubois is set to defend his belt against Joseph Parker on February 22. The heavyweight title clash will feature on the undercard of the highly-anticipated undisputed light heavyweight championship rematch between Artur Beterbiev and Dmitry Bivol.

If he comes through that fight unscathed, a rematch between Dubois and Usyk will inevitably happen at some point in 2025.
