‘Not right now’… Canelo shuts down influencer mega-fight ahead of clash with Terence Crawford

Canelo will headline a huge Netflix fight card against Terence Crawford in September.

Canelo Alvarez will put his stellar reputation as the face of boxing and one of the pound-for-pound kings on the line, alongside his undisputed super-middleweight belts, against Terence Crawford in Las Vegas.

The fight comes after Canelo’s drab win over William Scull saw him regain the undisputed crown ahead of the match-up.

Canelo had seemingly been in talks for a mega fight with one controversial influencer, but has now dismissed the idea altogether.

Canelo no longer interested in facing Jake Paul

A few months ago it seemed genuinely plausible that Jake Paul could face Canelo in the ring.

That was until, at the eleventh hour, Turki Alalshikh swooped in with a multi-fight deal, including the Scull and Crawford fights.

In a recent interview with Carl Froch, the former champion asked Canelo if he is still open to facing Paul.

Canelo, who rates Crawford highly, responded: “Not right now.”

Froch attempted to get more out of the Mexican, stating that there were talks of it, and asked if Canelo had no interest for the fight any longer.

Canelo just repeated his initial answer: “Not right now.”

The fight that was once close to being made now seems a long way off, and will likely not happen anytime soon.

Canelo has beaten Jake Paul’s next opponent

Whilst Paul isn’t facing Canelo, he’s attempting the next best thing, fighting one of his opponents.

Paul will face Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. next, a former middleweight world champion, though one who has had just one fight in the last four years, and lost to MMA fighter Anderson Silva a few fights ago.

Canelo fought Chavez Jr. before his stretches of inactivity, back in 2017, when he won a shutout decision against his fellow Mexican.
