Natasha Jonas calls for rematch with ‘privileged’ Katie Taylor ahead of four-title showdown against undefeated star

Boxing fans are in for a truly spectacular start to 2025, with a host of household names set to compete over the next three to four months.

Those superstars who are set to promptly return to the ring include Naoya Inoue, David Benavidez, Claressa Shields, Dmitry Bivol, and Artur Beterbiev.

There’s also a fantastic four-title showdown between Natasha Jonas and Lauren Price scheduled for early March; with ‘Miss GB’ hoping that a big win could land her a long-awaited rematch with the biggest star in women’s boxing.

Natasha Jonas throws her name into the hat for Katie Taylor rematch

Natasha Jonas faces undefeated Welsh boxer Lauren Price on March 7 with the Ring Magazine, WBC, WBA, and IBF welterweight titles on the line – the WBO title is held by Mikaela Mayer.

Speaking earlier this week to Boxing News, Jonas acknowledged that whilst she might not be top of the shortlist to face Katie Taylor later in 2025, she’s certainly in the running ahead of that title showdown with Price.

“Katie’s been in a privileged position for a very long time and there’s been no one that she’s ducked, she’s fought everyone at their best with nothing to prove; she’s privileged enough to be able to pick who she wants.

“All we can do is sit and hope that it’s us [she picks], but I would never blame her for taking the Serrano fight – why wouldn’t you when that’s the biggest payday – and I would never blame her for wanting the Chantelle Cameron trilogy and going down that route.”

Taylor first defeated Jonas at the 2012 Olympic Games, before going 2-0 up via a unanimous decision in 2021.

Jonas would love the chance to exact revenge – especially given how that last bout was one of those unusual COVID-era events where no fans were in attendance.

“Obviously, I’d appreciate being selected to have the dance again, I believe that it deserves fans [to be in the house], so she’s privileged where she can pick whoever she wants, she’s earned the right to do that.”

Would a potential Taylor vs Jonas rematch be bigger than Taylor vs Cameron – “I don’t know, I think the Scouse-Irish thing is a huge connection,” noted ‘Miss GB’.

“I think it’s just a huge fight, the story of the Olympics, the story of the first fight as pro’s and I think it sells – any fight with Katie sells, it doesn’t matter who it is.”

Natasha Jonas must first defeat Lauren Price in four-belt showdown

If Jonas is to secure her long-awaited rematch with Taylor, she first needs to get through Lauren Price on March 7 – with that event being aptly titled ‘Unstoppable’, as that’s what Price has been since turning pro in 2022.

“You can only fight who’s in front of you, there are other big opportunities [available] but if you don’t beat the person that’s in front of you, those opportunities can go away – so I’m 100% focused on Lauren Price.

“You quickly got over it [not getting who you want], I mean it’s boxing isn’t it, so you don’t always get what you wished for, but it’s here now, so this is the fight that I’m concentrating on.”

Six weeks out from that four-belt showdown, Jonas remains a sizable underdog to Price; although ‘Miss GB’ believes this opportunity is coming too early in the Welsh fighter’s career.

“Her best name on her record was a very poor Jessica McCaskill, I don’t think that she’s proven herself yet in the pro ranks… I think that [my] timing, accuracy and boxing IQ will overcome that.”

Jonas vs Price goes down live from the Royal Albert Hall in London on Friday, March 7.
