Moses Itauma wins ‘only comparison’ with Mike Tyson according to Frank Warren

Moses Itauma continued his upward trajectory in the heavyweight division, as he passed the test of Dillian Whyte on Saturday.

Itauma knocked out Whyte in just under two minutes in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia as ‘The Body Snatcher’ fell to his fourth career defeat.

As for the 20-year-old, he now finds himself with a 13-0 record, with Turki Alalshikh aiming for Itauma vs Oleksandr Usyk.

The knockout win means that fans can continue to compare Itauma to Mike Tyson. However, boxing promoter Frank Warren has had his say on the comparison.

Frank Warren says Moses Itauma edges out Mike Tyson in their only comparison

Itauma has drawn comparisons to Tyson over his recent fights. Although the British star is not able to beat Tyson’s record as youngest heavyweight world champion, the pair are both known for knockout ability at a young age.

Although Itauma’s name is often mentioned in association with Tyson’s, Queensberry Boxing promoter Frank Warren feels there is only one comparison between the two.

Speaking to IFL TV, Warren said after Itauma’s victory, “Mike Tyson was a phenomenal young fighter… He had a load of fights [by Itauma’s age]. Moses has not had that many fights, but, the opposition he’s been in with in his last few fights, I think it’s better opposition than Mike had in that stage of his career in his 12th fight.”

Warren added, “That’s the only comparison you can make.”

The boxing promoter also highlighted what he feels to be a ‘difference’ between Itauma and Tyson. “The difference is his [Itauma’s] feet are on the floor. He’s a professional. He’s not interested in being Jack the lad. He’s never out boozing and ——– around.”

Moses Itauma’s 13th fight compared to Mike Tyson’s 13th fight

For Itauma’s 13th fight as a professional, he took on former world title challenger and interim champion Whyte in what was a step up in his career.

The 37-year-old Whyte had faced former world champions such as Tyson Fury, Anthony Joshua, and Joseph Parker in the past.

As for Tyson, he was in the midst of a teenage knockout streak. A 19-year-old Tyson took on Conroy Nelson from Canada in his 13th professional fight.

Fighting in November 1985, Tyson won the bout via second-round TKO, putting away the 15-7-2 fighter.

The win came just eight months after the debut of ‘Iron Mike’.
