Moses Itauma offered advice on ‘rushed’ Oleksandr Usyk super fight by British boxing legend

Unbeaten starlet Moses Itauma has been offered some stern advice on a potential blockbuster title charge with Oleksandr Usyk.

Fast approaching top-contender status at heavyweight, undefeated prospect Moses Itauma recorded the most high-profile win of his career last month, stopping Dillian Whyte with a huge first-round knockout win.

And as such, the Slovakian-born contender has found himself tied to a whole host of potential fights next, ahead of a potential return as soon as November.

Most notably, the 13-0 star has been linked to a showdown with undisputed champion Oleksandr Usyk — in a pairing he has been advised to think very carefully about.

Lennox Lewis advises Moses Itauma on Oleksandr Usyk clash

Himself all too familiar with super fights during his illustrious career, former undisputed heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis is the latest to weigh in on Itauma’s future in the sport.

Having already received comparisons to the Olympic star, Itauma has also been tipped as a severe threat to the heavyweight reign of unbeaten Ukrainian superstar Usyk.

However, as far as Lewis is concerned, he’s not so sure a fight with Usyk should be on the radar of Itauma now — or even ever, in fact.

“It’s way too soon,” Lewis told Sky Sports of a fight between Usyk and Itauma. “It’s better to wait until he retires. He [Usyk]’s not going to stay around too long and then take your shot.

“There’s no use doing it now. Right now you’re learning. You’re learning everything, and you have to wait for the right time.

“You can never be rushed. If you’re rushed, you’re going to do a bad result for your career, so it’s better to take your time and take it when it’s ready, when you’re ready.”

And while already receiving comparisons to Lewis, Itauma has also been branded as the next version of one of the British star’s most notable rivals.

Moses Itauma described as the ‘new Mike Tyson’

Running roughshod through Whyte en route to his definitive first-round knockout win, Itauma has been mentioned alongside another former undisputed heavyweight champion, namely Mike Tyson.

That’s according to former world titleholder George Groves, at least, who even suggested Itauma could be the sole fighter on the planet right now to make an interesting piece of boxing history.

“Moses is a tough one to match for me. Everyone who wants to fight him now probably wants to get paid mega money,” Groves said via DAZN. “He’s a main event fighter now, so who’d you match him with?

“That might be a problem for us fight fans because every time we tune in, there’s this new Mike Tyson and all of a sudden, it’s over in 2 minutes,” Groves continued. “It might be the future, having multiple opponents in one night.”
