Moses Itauma explains how he plans to emulate Floyd Mayweather… ‘He was such a good fighter’

Moses Itauma has distinct plans for success in the ring — including enjoying a run similar to that of the unbeaten icon Floyd Mayweather.

Returning for his biggest fight yet, Moses Itauma will take on former interim WBC heavyweight champion Dillian Whyte this weekend in the Middle East.

And in search of his thirteenth straight win as part of an undefeated run, Itauma has emerged as one of the most high-profile prospects at the heavyweight limit.

But with his career set to hit new heights, should he topple the veteran Whyte, Itauma has no plans to rush his course to the top, in a bid to emulate the legendary Floyd Mayweather.

Moses Itauma lays out plan to emulate Floyd Mayweather

Laying bare his plans to follow the trodden course by former multi-weight champion Mayweather, Itauma must first retain his undefeated record against the experienced stalwart Whyte this weekend.

But if he can do so, the Slovak-born striker has no intentions to make a quickfire and fade rise to the top of the sport — instead planning to preserve his ‘0’ in a bid to match a career path of the Grand Rapids megastar.

“He (Mayweather) made a lot of money in this sport, came out with his brains intact, no damage and whatnot and nobody can say, ‘Yeah, I [beat] him up,” Itauma told The Ring.

“That’s the career that I want,” Itauma explained. “When people are insecure about themselves, they put a little doubt, a little bit of pressure on someone.

“They hope that they’re going to break because it makes them feel better.”

But with his damning rise through heavyweight prospects — and with a win over Jamaican veteran, Whyte, Itauma may not be afforded a quiet rise to contention.

Moses Itauma plays down links to Oleksandr Usyk pairing

And despite the above-mentioned claims from his coach Ben Davison that he would fancy his student’s chances against the undisputed Oleksandr Usyk, Itauma is not eyeing that pairing whatsoever.

Maintaining his focus on his high-profile clash with Whyte, Itauma is in no rush to play up a showdown with heavyweight star Usyk — for the time being — at least.

“I’m not thinking about it,” Itauma said. “I’m not, ‘I wish that could happen’.

“Because right now, I’ve got a serious contender like Dillian Whyte in front of me, but after, maybe.”
