Mike Tyson not in favor of Canelo Alvarez vs Terence Crawford for one reason

Former heavyweight champion Tyson has given his, perhaps unpopular, thoughts on the mega-fight between the Mexican and American.

Speaking on the Come And Talk 2 Me podcast, Tyson gave his thoughts on Alvarez vs Crawford, saying he wasn’t overly excited about the bout.

“I don’t like that fight,” Tyson said.

When explaining why he didn’t like the fight, Tyson believes that the weight difference is going to be too big of a factor, posing a significant disadvantage for Crawford. “Too much weight [difference].

Tyson’s reasoning comes from Crawford’s last outing, where he faced Israil Madrimov at super welterweight, after ‘Bud’ moved up divisions. “He had a close fight with the last guy he fought because he was really big and awkward…He shouldn’t have even fought that guy.

Although fellow legend Roy Jones Jr. predicted Alvarez vs Crawford claiming the weight wouldn’t be a factor, the heavyweight seemingly does not agree.

Terence Crawford has never fought in a division above super welterweight

One of the main talking points ahead of the super fight between Alvarez and Crawford is how the lighter fighter will deal with the move to super middleweight.

In terms of past experience, fans can not base their predictions on any previous outings from Crawford in the division.

In his last fight, Crawford moved to super welterweight to contest for the WBO interim title. However, prior to this, ‘Bud’ had only competed between lightweight and welterweight.

It is worth noting that Alvarez has also competed at welterweight in the past. However, it was in the early stages of his career when the Mexican fought in the division.

Leaving the welterweight division in 2010, Alvarez has fought as high as light heavyweight, including winning a world title in the weight class.

Although rumors of a catchweight bout between the two were speculated, the two are understood to be competing at the super middleweight limit of 168 lbs.
