Mel Gibson recalls meeting Muhammad Ali
In his iconic acting career, Mel Gibson has encountered many a gifted performer, but perhaps none more so than Muhammad Ali.
While not a professional actor, the warrior possessed incredible charisma, which he used to captivate the attention of the world whenever he set foot in a boxing ring.
Over the years, the American made waves for famous lines such as, ‘Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee’, as well as his epic showdowns with George Foreman and Joe Frazier, in which he bombarded his rivals with copious amounts of trash talk.
However, as he got older, the sportsman developed Parkinson’s, which severely impacted his speech and movement.
But while the condition is undeniably debilitating, Ali refused to let it define him, with Gibson claiming he never stopped cracking jokes.
On an episode of The Joe Rogan Experience, he said: “I met Muhammad Ali when he was in a chair. I don’t know if I can even tell this story. What he said was so funny.
“He was still in there. He was still f***ing with people. I can’t tell this story. I’ll tell you later. What he said to my assistant was so funny.
“And then, he said it, and we were all like, ‘Woah’. Then, I looked at him, and he was laughing his a** off.
“He was still in there, but I guess he had the damage of being punched.”
