Mario Barrios denies existence of rematch clause as he prepares to face ‘the best version’ of Manny Pacquiao

Mario Barrios may only have one shot to face Manny Pacquiao as details of their fight contract become public.

The WBC Welterweight champion defends his title against Manny Pacquiao on July 19, thanks to a WBC rule that gives the former champion a title shot.

This is despite Pacquiao’s last fight coming four years ago in a disappointing defeat to Yordenis Ugas.

Barrios is expecting Pacquiao to be back at his best, but one omission from their fight contract may turn out to be a bad decision in the long run.

Mario Barrios denies he has a rematch clause for Manny Pacquiao fight

As far as Barrios knows, his fight with Pacquiao on July 19 will be their only one, as there is no rematch clause included in their fight contract.

Speaking with AB Boxing News, Barrios admitted that he is expecting “the best” Pacquiao for their fight, regardless of him being 46 at the time of the fight.

“The best. The best Pacquiao. You know, regardless of his age and everything, he looks great in training.

“He’s saying he’s well-rested and everything. But yeah, I’m just getting ready for the best version of him that I might see.”

When asked if there was a rematch clause in the contract for the Pacquiao fight, Barrios bluntly replied: “Not that I know of, no.”

This could be a poor move should he lose to the eight-weight champion. Barrios’ fight with Pacquiao is set to be a lucrative one, with a rematch having the potential to be even bigger with PacMan walking in as champion.

Manny Pacquiao could face Conor Benn after beating Mario Barrios

If Pacquiao does get back to his best to beat Barrios, then a bout with Conor Benn could be in the Filipino’s future.

Benn has targeted the WBC World Championship, which is currently held by Barrios, ahead of his fight with PacMan.

If Pacquiao does shock the world and become one of the oldest world champions in history, the son of Nigel Benn could be his next opponent.

However, it could be a while until that fight, as Benn is set to clash with Chris Eubank Jr in their rematch later this year.
