Legendary trainer predicts an early knockout as he labels Tyrrell Herndon the ‘right guy’ for Deontay Wilder

Deontay Wilder should make easy work of his next opponent, according to one legendary boxing trainer.

The former World Heavyweight champion took a one-year hiatus from boxing after Zhilei Zhang knocked out Deontay Wilder in his last fight.

Wilder returns tonight to take on Tyrrell Herndon, a relatively unknown fighter who has been thrust into the spotlight for this fight.

Most people have “The Bronze Bomber” as the heavy favorite for the fight, and one legendary trainer thinks that the fight won’t last long at all.

Teddy Atlas predicts Deontay will knock out ‘right guy’ Tyrrell Herndon in the early rounds

Iconic boxing trainer Teddy Atlas has made his predictions for Wilder vs. Herndon, as he names Herndon the “right guy” for Wilder.

Speaking on THE FIGHT with Teddy Atlas, he admitted that Herndon is the perfect opponent to build up Wilder’s confidence after some difficult losses.

Wilder said: “If you want to come back from devastating knockout losses, if you want to come back at a late point in your career after you’ve been obviously losing fights, you get a guy like Herndon.

“You get a guy that’s been knocked out. You get a guy who’s available. You get a guy that you don’t have to look for.

“You get a guy who is 38 years old. I think he’s 38, but he’s somewhere in that neighborhood. You get that guy. You go to the place where you find what you need for what you’re looking for.

“They got the right guy to get confidence back. It’s going to take him a minute to kind of get his feet under him, get his sea legs back, where he can feel good again.

“So I’m going to make it three rounds. That’s long when you consider that he’s been knocked out in one round by these other guys. And people are going to say, ‘Well, Wilder is capable of knocking him out too in one.’

“Of course he is. I’m just going to say he’s going to go about it a little less quickly, and that’s going to allow Hearn to last two to three rounds. Two to three rounds.”

Wilder is known for his blistering knockouts, although it’s been a while since the fans have been treated to a top finish by the Bronze Bomber.

Deontay Wilder hasn’t knocked anyone out since 2022

While many are convinced that he’ll knock out Herndon in an easy fight, Wilder hasn’t stopped another fighter for three years before this bout.

The former WBC Heavyweight champion has only won once since 2019, with the 2022 fight with Robert Helenius the last time he knocked another fighter out.

Wilder ended Helenius in the first round of their 2022 fight. With just 10 seconds left in the round, Wilder was pushed into the corner by his Finnish opponent.

However, his fist sprang out and into the head of Helenius, knocking him straight to the canvas and leaving him in an unconscious heap.

That win was sandwiched between Wilder’s losses to Tyson Fury and Joseph Parker, and he will hope that his fight against Herndon will be a return to form.
