Lamont Roach Jr.’s New York State Athletic Commission appeal of his draw against Gervonta Davis was denied.
Lamont Roach Jr. and Gervonta Davis fought to a majority draw earlier this month in Brooklyn for Davis’s WBA lightweight title. Many pundits and viewers scored the fight in Roach’s favor, despite a controversial knockdown no-call by the presiding referee.
After the controversial draw, Roach and his team filed an appeal with the New York State Athletic Commission centered around the knockdown no-call. It was denied due to three or more rounds playing out after the incident.
It didn’t take long for Roach to weigh in on social media.

In a recent post to X, Roach reacted to the NYSAC’s ruling.
“Look man I’m going tell yall straight up I aint sue nobody. STFU,” Roach posted. “MY TEAM submitted an appeal on my behalf. What it look like not having a team that don’t pull that trigger on some s— that they know was wrong. They stood up for me. So all that lawsuit s— yall can put to rest.
“I’m not surprised about the decision by the NYSAC. A lil disappointed, yea. Especially when they ACKNOWLEDGED the fact that Steve made the wrong calls in the 9th round. But I wasn’t banking on the overturn. Everyone know I won the fight and I’m satisfied with that. Part 2 otw.”
Davis claimed he took a knee in the ninth round due to hair grease getting in his eye. Davis’s stylist has since dismissed the unbeaten athlete’s claims.
Luckily for Roach and his team, they won’t have to wait long to get a second shot at Davis in the ring. The two sides are mutually interested in an immediate rematch.

Davis also owes Roach $250k after a pre-fight bet failed inside the ring. Davis bet Roach $250k that he’d knock him out in their matchup, and it’s uncertain if Davis paid up.
Roach entered the Davis fight on a six-fight winning streak since a unanimous decision loss to Jamel Herring in Nov. 2019. He defeated the likes of Daniel Rosas, Feargal McCrory, and Hector Garcia during his current unbeaten run.
Davis won his first 30 professional fights before the draw against Roach, including knockouts of Ryan Garcia and Frank Martin. After initially teasing that 2025 would be his retirement year, Davis seems intent on at least one more fight before hanging up the gloves.
