Krzysztof Glowacki set up huge title clash with Oleksandr Usyk after Fight of the Year barnburner

Polish veteran Krzysztof Glowacki was once considered a sizeable test for Oleksandr Usyk during his cruiserweight run, off the back of a barnburning title win.

Boasting an undefeated 26-0 professional record at the time of his clash with Usyk, Polish star Glowacki had just defended his WBO crown in a unanimous decision win over American veteran Steve Cunningham.

But kicking off the first of his two WBO championship runs, Glowacki was involved in a Fight of the Year back-and-forth against a fellow European star.

Krzysztof Glowacki stopped Marco Huck in fiery showdown

Rescuing victory from the jaws of defeat on this day in 2015, Polish veteran Glowacki was pitted against Marco Huck, with the duo tangling for the WBO cruiserweight crown.

And forced to fight some massive adversity in the pairing, Glowacki was heavily dropped in the sixth round by Huck.

Returning to his feet, the former European titleholder poured the pressure on Huck, but still remained on the wrong side of the judges scorecards ahead of the final round.

Branded by many as the Fight of the Year, Glowacki would rally in expert fashion — dropping Huck against the ropes as the referee called a halt to the contest.

Attempting to defend his WBO crown for a staggering fourteenth time, Huck had come unstuck for the first time at the cruiserweight limit in his illustrious career.

To boot, the knockdowns both scored would come as the first either man had been dropped to the canvas in their respective careers.

Krzysztof Glowacki’s super fight with Oleksandr Usyk

Pitted against current undisputed heavyweight champion Usyk a year after his devastating knockout win over Huck, Glowacki would put his WBO crown on the line for the second time.

Outpointed over the course of twelve rounds in another back-and-forth clash with the Ukrainian star, Glowacki dropped his title as well as his undefeated record, having won 26 fights consecutively.

Following a quartet of fights in the time since his loss to Usyk, Glowacki would regain the WBO cruiserweight championship — albeit interim, defeating Russian star Maxim Vlasov in the pair’s vacant title affair.
