Keith Thurman eyes clash with son of a boxing legend ahead of his fight with Brock Jarvis

Keith Thurman will face Brock Jarvis on Wednesday in what will be Thurman’s second fight in six years.

Keith Thurman will return to the ring on Wednesday against Brock Jarvis in his first fight since defeating former Gervonta Davis opponent, Mario Barrios, in 2022.

Prior to that, Thurman had not fought since 2019, when he lost a split decision to Manny Pacquiao, who recently revealed Oscar De La Hoya is his favorite fighter. This is the only loss of Thurman’s career.

Standing in his way of a big fight with the son of a legend is Brock Jarvis. Jarvis is 22-1, with his only loss coming by way of first-round knockout to Liam Paro.

Keith Thurman has sights set on fight with Tim Tszyu

Keith Thurman’s comeback fight was initially set to be against Tim Tszyu in 2024, but he was forced to withdraw after suffering a bicep injury in training.

Tszyu, son of Kostya Tszyu, who faced Ricky Hatton, fought Sebastian Fundora instead and lost a split decision after a twelve-round bloodbath.

Tszyu’s bad luck didn’t end there, though, as he most recently lost to Bakhram Murtazaliev in a brutal third-round knockout.

Thurman wants to right his wrong and eyes a clash with Tszyu next, provided he can first get past his fellow Aussie in Jarvis, who has 20 knockouts to his 22 wins.

Keith Thurman has some unusual words to describe opponent Brock Jarvis

Thurman was asked in a press conference ahead of the fight whether he thought Jarvis would be an easy opponent, to which he replied:

“I mean he moves like a cardboard box on wheels, man. A f—— Tetris board in action. He’s square as f—, boy’s got no head movement. […] He believes that he’s gonna drop bombs on an old man and I’m gonna crumble.”

Jarvis fired back: “I’m gonna punch a hole in your head. […] I’m gonna hit you and I’m gonna hurt you.”

Thurman mocked him for his response, pretending to be scared after Jarvis’ threat.

Thurman is 36 years old, whilst Jarvis is almost ten years younger, aged 27. It remains to be seen whether age and inactivity will be triumph over seasoned experience on Wednesday. Lennox Lewis’ former opponent Oliver McCall proved age can be just a number when he scored a knockout aged 59, but Jarvis is a far higher caliber opponent, and an upset is possible.
