Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. was never the same after a heartbreaking loss, according to a boxing legend

Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. failed to reproduce the form of his brilliant best after suffering a devastating defeat.

On June 28, the son of a legend will return to the ring against Jake Paul inside the Honda Center in Anaheim, California, USA.

At the peak of his powers, the superstar would’ve been far too much for the YouTuber. In one of his best performances, Chavez Jr. ruthlessly knocked out Andy Lee.

However, in recent years, he’s looked a million miles away from the man he was in his prime, opening the door for ‘The Problem Child’ to pick up his biggest scalp to date.

Roy Jones Jr. says Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. was never the same after Sergio Martinez loss

On September 15, 2012, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. went to war with Sergio Martinez inside the Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.

While the Mexican was dominated for eleven rounds, he never gave up, scoring a knockdown in the twelfth to almost pull off a late upset, en route to losing via unanimous decision.

Despite the result, the fighter’s stock was still very high. Alas, according to Roy Jones Jr., ‘La Leyenda Continúa’ has never been as good as he was that night.

In a recent interview, Jones Jr. said: “Chavez Jr. wasn’t the same after the Sergio Martinez fight. I think that fight might have taken a lot out of him.

“So, at that point, I don’t think he ever was the same, but he was a good fighter at one time, and all good fighters have a chance to show up one night because somewhere down in him there is a good fighter.

“Whether he can find it or not for the Jake Paul fight, we don’t know. But I think Jake should probably take him out, mainly because Jake beat Anderson Silva. And Silva beat Chavez.

“Sometimes, it’s a triangle, sometimes it goes like that. But from what I’m seeing right now, I think Jake beats him because Jake’s bigger, Jake’s used to fighting more at that weight, and I think Jake just has more vigor right now, and will want to win more than Chavez does.”

Roy Jones Jr. calls out icon for a fight on the Jake Paul vs Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. undercard

While Chavez Jr. is no longer at his best, Jones Jr. is even further removed from his heyday.

At one point in time, the American was nothing short of extraordinary, mesmerizing fans with his remarkable skills.

However, at the age of 56, his athletic peak is undeniably in the rearview mirror.

Regardless, Jones Jr. has called out a boxing legend for a huge fight.
