Johnny Fisher appoints new trainer and now shares gym with scary puncher and retired icon whose card he fought on

Johnny Fisher split from Mark Tibbs after his KO loss to Dave Allen in their rematch, and will now rebuild under new supervision.

In December last year, Johnny ‘The Romford Bull’ Fisher faced heaps of criticism after being awarded a split decision victory over Dave Allen, who many expected Fisher to bowl over with ease.

Fisher granted Allen the rematch as he acknowledged the fight could have gone either way, but was stopped when the pair locked horns in London’s Copperbox Arena.

Now 13-1, Fisher must rebuild from the devastating loss, and believes he has found just the man to help.

Johnny Fisher appoints Tony Sims as new head coach

Not far from his home in Romford, Fisher has settled into a new gym in Brentwood, headed by Tony Sims.

Sims has trained a host of fighters, including Anthony Joshua for a couple of years, but most recently has been known for his work with John Ryder and Conor Benn.

Fisher fought at Alexandra Palace for his fifth bout on the undercard of John Ryder’s win over Daniel Jacobs.

He has also shared a card with Benn, scoring a TKO win in Las Vegas on the undercard of Benn vs Peter Dobson.

Also in Sims’ gym is Craig Richards, Jimmy Sains, and George Liddard, as well as reality star, and Sims’ nephew – Joey Essex, who will fight on Misfits soon.

Speaking on the change in trainer, Fisher said, “I’ve always had respect for Tony and all the boys. I mean, Craig’s behind me, you got Jimmy and George, and Conor Benn. Some great names before John Ryder who’s still here. To be among them names and involved in that, I know I’m gonna be pushed very very hard.”

Johnny Fisher reveals the other coach he considered before picking Tony Sims

Once Fisher had decided to leave Tibbs, it was no guarantee that he would land on another gym so close to home.

Fisher, who blitzed Alen Babic in one round, told IFL TV that he did shop around for a new trainer, and almost landed on the one that houses his biggest rival,

“I had a little look around. I went up to Jamie Moore for a little bit. I had a little look around and I found that the best fit for me was Tony Sims.”

Jamie Moore is the current trainer of Jack Catterall and Dave Allen, who will face Arslanbek Makhmudov next.

Allen and Fisher are well known to be good friends outside of the ring, so this link-up would have been fine for both men, though it seems Fisher believes Sims will be the best man for the job.
