Jake Paul was stunned when boxing promoter brutally branded him ‘average’ during awkward encounter

Jake Paul was left nothing short of furious when one of the biggest promoters in combat sports, described him as an ‘average’ boxer.

It’s fair to say ‘The Problem Child’ didn’t take the comment lying down.

Jake Paul fumes at Eddie Hearn for calling him ‘average’

In April 2022, Jake Paul and Eddie Hearn joined forces to promote one of the highest-profile women’s fights of all time between Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano.

Utilizing their personalities to sell the show, the pair sat down for a face-to-face, in which they debated which of the boxers was going to win.

However, it didn’t take long for the conversation to turn sour, with the Brit making a jibe at Paul over his first professional bout, in which he won via first-round KO, saying: “He fought AnEsonGib who was terrible on the night and Jake looked pretty average cause Gib was terrible as well.”

Aggravated by the remark, the Cleveland fighter claimed Hearn couldn’t possibly gauge his ability based off a fight that ended so quickly.

Taking a moment to gather his thoughts, the businessman replied: “That’s true. I don’t know where you might go. I just give you where I think you’re at, which I’m entitled to, which is average.”

Then, Hearn delivered the biggest of backhanded compliments, insisting: “Average is very complimentary to you.”

Jake Paul explains why he thinks he’s made more progress than any professional boxer

While Paul isn’t anywhere near world level, his rise through the sport has been undeniably impressive.

Within just three years of taking up the craft, he defeated former UFC welterweight champion, Tyron Woodley, and followed it up with a victory over an, albeit aging, but still dangerous, Anderson Silva.

Having developed a ferocious right hand and reasonable boxing technique, the American is continuing to improve, with a fight against Mike Tyson at the weekend set to attract the attention of millions.

The 27-year-old has now discussed how he’s managed to excel so quickly.
