Jake Paul has approached boxing legend’s son for potential clash following Mike Tyson victory

Jake Paul has been called out by a plethora of world champions and retired fighters since his controversial victory over Mike Tyson earlier this month.

The YouTube star produced a pedestrian performance to outpoint his 58-year-old opponent through eight two-minute rounds, headlining streaming juggernaut Netflix’s first ever live boxing event.

Shortly after his uninspiring victory over Mike Tyson, though, Jake Paul was heavily lambasted by fans for not fighting an active professional boxer.

Nevertheless, ‘El Gallo’ has now extended his record to 12-1, with the one blemish arriving against reality TV star Tommy Fury last year.

Former world champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr reveals he has been approached by Jake Paul

In the immediate aftermath of his underwhelming performance, Paul was shockingly called out by Daniel Dubois, the IBF world heavyweight champion.

Undisputed light heavyweight king Artur Beterbiev, too, was quick to target the social media sensation, despite the pound-for-pound star being linked with a rematch against Dmitry Bivol.

But while he has responded to the many call outs, Paul is yet to reveal who his next outing will be against.

That said, it now appears as though he could be eager to face former WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.

The son of legendary boxer Julio Cesar Chavez made three defenses of his crown at 160 lbs before getting outpointed by formidable puncher Sergio Martinez in 2012.

Since then, the 38-year-old has failed to replicate the same success, losing a split decision to former UFC champion Anderson Silva in 2021.

But now, with Chavez Jr campaigning up at cruiserweight, he is seemingly in talks for a potential dustup against Paul.

“It’s an option, we’re looking into it, let’s see, this week I have a meeting,” Chavez Jr told TUDN MEX. “I’d be interested in fighting a champion, but fighting Jake Paul, for the fame and the media, would put me in a position to fight against others.

“I’m not looking for it, it’s been presented. It’s not concrete, but let’s see what happens.”

WBA president backs potential Jake Paul vs. Julio Cesar Chavez Jr fight

If there was ever an example that boxing’s four major sanctioning bodies – the WBC, WBA, WBO and IBF – truly have no integrity, this most certainly is one.

Following Paul’s victory over Tyson, WBA president Gilberto Mendoza wrote on X that he would be open to a fight between the 27-year-old and Chavez Jr for one of his belts.

And so, it appears that this farcical clash has even captured the attention of one of boxing’s most influential figures.
