Jai Opetaia will fight on Artur Beterbiev vs Dmitry Bivol undercard with significant weight advantage

Artur Beterbiev and Dmitry Bivol are now just hours away from their battle for light heavyweight supremacy in Saudi Arabia.

The two undefeated world champions will lock horns for the undisputed crown at 175 lbs, which was last worn by legendary boxer Roy Jones Jr back in 1999.

Not only that, but Beterbiev and Bivol will headline one of the best fight cards in recent memory, with unbeaten cruiserweight Jai Opetaia defending his IBF world title against Jack Massey.

Fans are also licking their lips in anticipation for the Fabio Wardley vs Frazer Clarke rematch and Skye Nicolson vs Raven Chapman world title clash, with each undercard fighter hoping to steal the show.

Jai Opetaia will be more than 5 lbs heavier than Jack Massey

Among the undercard combatants, Opetaia is arguably the most accomplished, with many fans regarding him as the world’s best cruiserweight.

The Australian comes off a comprehensive outing against Mairis Briedis, securing an impressive points victory over the former world champion after overcoming some adversity in the later rounds.

It was, in truth, a terrific resurgence from Briedis, who rolled back the years and turn the contest into a more competitive affair.

Nevertheless, Opetaia proved exactly why he is one of the most elite fighters in boxing, and now looks to resume his reign by securing a win over European and Commonwealth champion Jack Massey.

It has now been revealed, too, that the 29-year-old will hold a notable size advantage over his opponent when they enter the ring.

While both were under the 200 lb limit at yesterday’s weigh-in, it has been reported that, after stepping back onto the scales earlier today, Opetaia weighed in at 212 lbs.

Massey, meanwhile, weighed 5.5 lbs lighter, indicating exactly who will be the bigger man when the pair lock horns.

Will Jai Opetaia move up to heavyweight?

Opetaia has expressed a desire to become the undisputed champion at cruiserweight before moving up to the land of the giants.

And so, should he get past Massey, the hard-hitting bruiser will no doubt be targeting a showdown with the winner of Gilberto Ramirez vs Chris Billam-Smith, which takes place on November 16.

The opportunity to add two more trinkets to his collection, then, is seemingly enough of an incentive for Opetaia to remain in his division.
