Jai Opetaia aiming to spoil Jake Paul’s plans as he makes cruiserweight callout

Jai Opetaia has been in pursuit of a cruiserweight unification bout in recent times as the unbeaten fighter currently holds the IBF title.

Opetaia’s recent win over Claudio Squeo improved his record to 28-0, in what was the third defense of his IBF title in his second reign.

As Opetaia called out Gilberto Ramirez in his post-fight press conference, it is clear that the Australian wants to unify the 200 lbs division. However, he has not yet gotten his opportunity against ‘Zurdo’.

To make matters more complicated, Ramirez may be tempted into a lucrative opportunity to fight internet star Jake Paul.

Jake Paul aiming to set up fight with Gilberto Ramirez for world title opportunity

Although Paul has split opinions throughout his boxing journey, the internet star now has a 12-1 record.

Paul is also now ranked by the WBA, as the organization feels that ‘The Problem Child’ is the 14th best cruiserweight contender in the world. Not only does the ranking add status to Paul’s boxing career, but it also makes him eligible to challenge for the title.

The WBA World Cruiserweight champion is Ramirez, who recently competed on Paul’s undercard. After both men scored victories in California, they faced-off for a potential bout.

This was also accompanied by Paul calling out Ramirez in his post-fight interview, alongside the likes of Gervonta Davis and Anthony Joshua.

One week on from Ramirez and Paul’s wins, Opetaia claims there is only one fight that needs to be made at cruiserweight.

Aiming to disrupt the possibility of Ramirez vs Paul, Opetaia posted on his X account a fight poster for a cruiserweight unification bout.

With the caption on the post being “I’m coming for my belts,” Opetaia posted a photo of himself and Ramirez facing off in a fight poster.

The caption on the poster reads, “The only fight needed,” as the Australian makes his desires clear.

Comments under the post include, “Make it official already!” and “The only relevant fight left at cruiserweight.”
