‘It’s a risky fight’… Joseph Parker’s trainer discusses potential opponent for vacant world heavyweight title clash

Andy Lee has opened up about whom Joseph Parker could face for the vacant world heavyweight title.

Having beaten Deontay Wilder, Zhilei Zhang and Martin Bakole back-to-back, there’s no denying the warrior deserves his shot at the throne.

The WBO has ordered Usyk to fight Joseph Parker, with the pair given 30 days to make a deal.

However, if the pound-for-pound number one doesn’t agree to face his mandatory challenger, then the contender will end up fighting someone else for his old belt.

Andy Lee discusses Joseph Parker vs Moses Itauma

Currently, Oleksandr Usyk is the WBO world heavyweight champion, while Joseph Parker is the interim title-holder and Moses Itauma is the number one contender.

Therefore, if the Ukrainian doesn’t fight the Kiwi, then a showdown between Parker and the division’s hottest prospect becomes a genuine possibility.

In an interview with IFL TV, Andy Lee discussed the idea of a collision between the talented operators.

The coach said: “He just needs to fight whether it’s Usyk or the next best challenger.

“If it’s for the vacant title, who are the contenders: Filip Hrgovic, Dillian Whyte, Moses Itauma?

“For Moses, it’s a risky fight; for Joseph, it’s a risky fight.

“There’s a risk for Moses that if he fights Joseph, he’ll never be the same.

“If it’s for the vacant time, it’ll have to be worth it.”

Joseph Parker is a dangerous fight for Oleksandr Usyk, says ex-world champion

While Parker could end up battling it out with Itauma, he’d much rather get his hands on Usyk.

However, there’s no denying that the 36-3 boxer would be a huge underdog.

But that doesn’t mean everybody is writing him off.

Interestingly, an ex-world champion says Parker is a ‘dangerous fight’ for Usyk.
