‘It does affect you’… Amanda Serrano details hindering factor ahead of Katie Taylor trilogy

Amanda Serrano will look to get revenge on Katie Taylor when the pair meet on July 11th, 2025.

Taylor will aim to defend her unified world super featherweight titles against the Puerto Rican, as Serrano finds herself winless after two meetings with the champion.

Taylor and Serrano will once again headline a card at Madison Square Garden at the top of an event that only features women’s fights.

Should Serrano wish to get a win over her rival, she will have to overcome one attribute of the matchup that causes her difficulty.

Amanda Serrano talks about the difficulties in moving up in weight

Despite Serrano losing her last outing to Taylor in November 2024, she is still a world champion.

The Puerto Rican is a unified champion at featherweight, three weight divisions below where she will fight Taylor. With a weight limit of 126 lbs for featherweight, there is a 14 lbs difference to super lightweight.

Speaking to the Breakfast Club, Serrano talked about the difficulties of moving up in weight class. “It does affect you. People don’t realize, it’s harder for me to go up in weight than to make the lower weight [classes],” Serrano said.

“I walk around at 134, 135 [lbs], so it’s easy for me to drop 10 pounds. But, when I’m going up, a lot of these girls can withhold my power. I still have power at that weight, but it’s just a lot easier for them to withhold it.”

Serrano then discussed the difficulties she finds in adjusting her diet to compete at the higher weight class. “I have to be constantly eating. My trainer, my sister, everyone’s forcing me to eat.”

The featherweight champion added that she has implemented a nutritional coach into her training camp for her third meeting with Taylor.

Amanda Serrano feels she won both fights against Katie Taylor, especially their sequel bout

Serrano was then asked by the hosts at the Breakfast Club which of her two meetings with Taylor she thought was closer.

The Puerto Rican said that she understood her first meeting with Taylor was close, but feels that she clearly won the second fight. “The second one, I think it’s pretty clear that I won,” Serrano said.

Serrano credited the win to outlanding the Irish fighter by 107 total punches, according to CompuBox.

“Both fights I’ve hurt her, she’s never really hurt me, other than the headbutts.”

Serrano then said that Taylor needs to win the fight ‘convincingly’ so that fans can accept her as the winner of their third instalment. ‘The Real Deal’ also added if Taylor were to beat her convincingly, she would have no problem admitting that.
