‘I’m ready’… Former world champion in position to rematch Anthony Joshua at Wembley

A former world champion wants another shot at beating Anthony Joshua after a failed attempt at dethroning the then-heavyweight champion back in 2018.

Anthony Joshua looks back to his destructive best after a devastating knockout win over former UFC champion Francis Ngannou in March.

The former heavyweight champion hadn’t looked himself after back-to-back defeats to now undisputed champion Oleksandr Usyk.

But now the former champion is bringing a big night of boxing to Wembley Stadium on September 21 and former opponent Joseph Parker wants a shot at a rematch.

Joseph Parker open to rematch with Anthony Joshua

Parker has earned himself another shot at a world title after earning successive wins against Deontay Wilder and Zhilei Zhang.

The former champion has credited his recent rise to trainer Andy Lee after the pair linked up following Parker’s fights with Derek Chisora.

Parker told Sky Sports: “I’ve been boxing 11 to 12 years and I’ve found what works for me, the formula I’ve got, Andy Lee head trainer, George Lockhart and the work that we’ve been doing together.

“It’s been a grind ever since we’ve linked up the three of us. But everything is working very well and whatever we’re doing we want to keep it up.”

Discussing a rematch with Joshua, the former champion explained his recent wins have put him in the mix for a shot.

“There’s a lot of people that want to fight Anthony Joshua. I feel like with what I’ve done I can be in a position to fight him,” he added.

“To be honest, it’s not really about what I want and what he wants. It’s what everyone else wants and a lot of fights are happening in Saudi Arabia.

“With the belts all being [held by the] undisputed heavyweight champion of the world, there’s a rematch clause in place, but again these things may or may not happen.

“You never know how things are going to unfold. So we’ll see. We’ll see what happens. But you’ve got Anthony Joshua…

“I let whatever happens happen and whatever fights they lock, they lock in and I’m ready for whoever.”

Parker is more deserving of Joshua fight than Dubois

Daniel Dubois looks like the frontrunner for a battle with former world champion Joshua in September but he may not be the most deserving.

Dubois picked up a career-best win over Filip Hrgovic in his last contest but questions are still being asked over the British heavyweight’s heart.

Stoppage defeats to Usyk and Joe Joyce have led to accusations of Dubois quitting after the heavyweight took a knee from a jab for the full ten count in both contests.

Parker is arguably more deserving after outboxing former world champion Wilder and climbing off the canvas to beat the dangerous Zhang.
