‘I’ll give that a miss’… Hamzah Sheeraz reveals one ‘beast’ he’d prefer to avoid

Hamzah Sheeraz is coming off a career-best win over Edgar Berlanga after stopping him in five.

Hamzah Sheeraz is now 22-0-1 after a huge win over Edgar Berlanga in New York.

His win has potentially set up Sheeraz vs Canelo in the future, though it’s more likely that he will first face someone like Christian Mbilli before getting his shot at the pound-for-pound star.

Whilst the British star vies for greatness against Canelo, there is one fighter he revealed he would give a miss.

Hamzah Sheeraz has no interest in facing David Benavidez

In an interview uploaded by KGTV, Sheeraz was told that Jose Benavidez Sr. said they would be open to facing Sheeraz if he ever moves up to light-heavyweight.

Sheeraz is currently at super-middleweight, having fought to a draw against Carlos Adames in his last fight as a middleweight.

Speaking on the match-up with ‘The Mexican Monster’, Sheeraz said, “Benavidez is a beast, bro. […] I done a camp with Jose Benavidez and I was sparring him for a whole camp a few years ago and I’ve seen David Benavidez and he’s a beast bro. I think for now I’ll give that a miss.”

Sheeraz revealed there are no plans to face Benavidez yet, especially since they are a division apart, with Sheeraz having just the one fight at super-middleweight in which he decimated Berlanga.

On the same card as Sheeraz vs Berlanga, Benavidez’s former foe, David Morrell controversially beat Imam Khataev, with many believing the decision was flawed.

Hamzah Sheeraz vs David Benavidez – The stats

Though Sheeraz confirmed this fight will not happen, at least not for the foreseeable future, it is interesting to see who could come out on top when you compare height, reach, and level of competition.

Benavidez will face Anthony Yarde next on The Ring’s upcoming card on November 22nd.
